From the back:

American frontier, and a fascinating exploration of the friendship between two men at odds with their own people. In this exciting tale set during the French and Indian War, Cooper's noble hero, Hawkeye, his Mohican Indian friend, Chingachgook, and Chingachgook's son, Uncas, agree to guide two sisters across hostile Indian territory in search of their father, a British commander, Thrilling and tragic, packed with massacres and raids, captures and rescues, and a doomed love affair. "The Last of the Mohicans" is an unforgettable story of the vanished American frontier.

Since this isn't my type of book, I will pass it on without reading it.

Hi literarylover,
I've received the book. I can't wait to read it...and nice screen shot from the movie on the cover. It makes the book look a bit like one of those trashy muscle-man romances! Thanks for sharing!

5 out of 10

I found this book really hard to get into and struggled with it all the way through. This is not my kind of book at all - but because I'm quite stuborn I wanted to read it all the way to the end. Now I've decided to see the movie - perhaps I like it better. But it was one of the 1001 BYMRBYD - so it's one more of the list.

Thanks for sharing.

I've contacted the next one on the list and the book will be in the mail on monday.

Sorry to have kept this for so long. Like the others I struggled to get into it initially and kept putting it down. I've just tried again this week to see if I could get though it, and if not I was going to send it on unread.
This time I got past the first few chapters and started to get interested and by the halfway point I was really enjoying it. So my verdict is that although it's not an easy book to get into, it's worth persevering.
Thanks for starting the ring Literarylover and I'll get it posted on asap.
