So I was just wandering around in the local Borders [not that that ever happens {grin}], and noticed this very eye-catching title among the cookbooks. The scrumptious cover photo didn't hurt, either... and when I found that the cookbooks were all on sale that day, well!

There are a number of recipes in here that just beg to be tried, so it may take me a while to know whether this book's a keeper or not. Toasted Coconut Ice Cream, anyone?

Later: The author's style is on the frivolous side (as should already have been obvious from the title). The book opens with his discussions of titles that he considered and rejected (Desserts You Can Mail, The Scratch And Sniff Cookbook). But when he gets down to practical matters he offers some good hints, such as grating cold butter to make it easier to cream into sugar without actually melting it first. And despite the frivolous title, some of the desserts are pretty classy-sounding: "Earl Grey Applesauce," for example, a "spicy, plummy, and very adult applesauce."

The frivolity resurfaces at intervals, though, such as in the writeup of the "Chocolate Sinkholes" recipe (molten-center-chocolate-cake variant): "This is hands-down my favorite geologically titled dessert, better than the famous Landslide Mud Puppy and even the highly touted (but often poorly executed) Tectonic Tea Cake with Fruity Fissures."

Another recipe I want to try is the "Mocha Mousse Wafers," no-flour cookies that must be served frozen, as "otherwise they might turn into goo. Yummy-tasting goo, but goo nonetheless."

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I figure I've had this cookbook long enough that, if I were going to use it, I would have - so I thought it was time it moved on! I left it propped up in the window of Coffee Labs at about 3, among the other books there. Hope the finder enjoys it!

A neighbor dropped the book off with me and I could quickly tell that it would be trouble. All desserts, all the time?! Yikes... get it out of my house as fast as possible. Didn't try any of the recipes but, to be honest, I wasn't tempted either. For desserts like this, would rather eat out in a restaurant or cafe... too much trouble to make myself. Back to Coffee Labs it will go so that the next person can perhaps put it to use.
