Wow, this book really surprised me! I haven't especially enjoyed the literary merits of Rice's other work, but I did enjoy this. (Though maybe not so much for its literary merits!) I really didn't expect novel-length erotica to hold my interest. (Why waste time with plot, after all?) But hold my interest it did. I was simultaneously horrified and fascinated by the humiliations Beauty endured. Surprisingly, there was much less sex (in the narrow definition of the word) than I expected; but I'm not even going to waste my breath trying to protest that it didn't turn me on.
