reading currently and not near as good as i was thinking it would be... i read reviews about it being funny? I dont think so. ive read one mildy funny thing so far and im almost done... not too bad though... a little boring

Journal Entry 2 by BelleMorte from Tuscaloosa, Alabama USA on Tuesday, November 9, 2004
finished this... and wow... that was bad... i dont know where people were getting that it was funny, cept at the end, in a way... to each his own... though this is a vampire book and i generally keep them all unless they are truly awful, i would be willing to consider a trade, prolly for another vamp book.

Journal Entry 5 by sharalsbooks from Mesa, Arizona USA on Friday, January 21, 2005
Enjoyable story. I loved Jody and couldn't wait to see what she would do next. Tommy was a great hero and the Emperor was a little off-beat and the Animals were a riot. The ending of this book leads me to believe there could be a sequel, which I think would be good. I would liked to have seen if Tommy turns and what becomes of Elijah Ben Sapir. Thanks for sharing this book, BelleMorte. I will be mailing this book out to Starry-Starry today.

Journal Entry 7 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, January 27, 2005
Received today, thanks sharalsbooks and BelleMorte. I've enjoyed the Christopher Moore books I've read so far so I'm looking forward to this one. I'll start it at the weekend.

Journal Entry 8 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Sunday, February 13, 2005
Loved this book, it is my favourite Christopher Moore book so far. I don't think it was funny per se, but it is a great story. The characters are a wonderfully quirky and the plot is fast-paced, I always wanted to know what happened next. I haven't read many vampire books but this seemed to parody most of them and I guess therein lies the humour.

Thanks Bellemorte for including me in the ray, I'll send it on to Boucli when I've confirmed her address.

Journal Entry 9 by boucli from Toulouse, Midi-Pyrénées France on Friday, February 18, 2005
Received in the mail yesterday, thanks Starry-starry, and BelleMorte for starting this ray !
More later...

Journal Entry 10 by boucli from Toulouse, Midi-Pyrénées France on Tuesday, March 8, 2005
Well, I could make mine Starry-starry's comments about this book... It is my second Moore's books so far, the first being "Lamb", about which I was quite disapointed (I guess I was expecting too much)...
But I really enjoyed this one, i thought the characters were great, and I even laughed out loud a few times (I loved Tommy's favorite line : "But Lestat can do it....").

Thanks BelleMorte (could be Jody's nickname, by the way ;-) for including me in this ray !

The book will leave as soon as I get jarrett622's address.

Journal Entry 11 by jarrett622 from Clayton, Georgia USA on Tuesday, March 15, 2005

This was a very quick read, about 4 hours. I loved it! Moore writes such good books.

I'll be mailing this on to choclaholic as soon as I have an address.

2005/25

7 1/2 stars.

As with all Christopher Moore books, this is quite an outrageous adventure. Moore's topic du jour: Vampires. Previous Moore books have included Demons, Whales, Native American Spirit Guides, and my all time favorite, Jesus.

This particular comic romp is a love story set in modern day San Francisco, and prinicipally involves a red-headed twenty-something serial-dater named Jody, and fresh-from-the-farm Hoosier boy named Tommy.

And it begins: Jody, just bitten, is in need of new digs, as she just can't live with her old boyfriend in her new condition. Ditto Tommy -- needs a roomie -- as he doesn't want to live with the Five Wongs in one room anymore. Jody needs a helper who can survive in daylight, and Tommy needs adventurous experiences he can transform into written words. It's a match made in....heaven?

Anyway, while Tommy works nights at the Safeway playing such sports as Frozen Turkey Bowling with his crew of "Animals", Jody is out trying to learn the ropes of vampirism. Still, the police are becoming suspicious of this series of strange murders that seem to surround Tommy, and the local homeless man known as "The Emperor" is vocalizing his not-so-abstract fear of Vampires.

Of course many crazy adventures follow, so if you're looking for a book that's deep or insightful; dark, macabre or goth -- this is probably not your book. But if it's a little mind candy you want, complete with brass-covered snapping turtles -- this could be the book for you.

Not as good as Lamb, better than Lust Lizard, and about the same quality as Coyote Blue, it is still a must read for all Moore fans. This will be going out to BigrTex tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!

Journal Entry 15 by BigrTex from Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Friday, May 6, 2005
Received it yesterday, and I've already started to read it. I've enjoyed the first two chapters and look forward to relaxing with it this weekend.

Journal Entry 16 by BigrTex from Colorado Springs, Colorado USA on Tuesday, May 10, 2005
This is one of my favorite Christopher Moore novels. I can't rank them, they just fall into great or flat. I recently read Lust Lizard and it was definately flat. This one, I kept finding myself laughing, and even reading quotes outloud to whoever glared at me for laughing. Some of them even smiled when they heard the quote. I would highly recommend this book, although with caveats for fans of serious vampire books.

The book is all packaged up and will be mailed out tonight or tomorrow morning.

Journal Entry 25 by andr0id from St. Louis, Missouri USA on Monday, September 12, 2005
I received the book from bookcrosser icekween01.

I read it cover to cover yesterday. It was a relaxing silly tale, but it isn't laugh out loud funny like Lust Lizard or Lamb. I did enjoy it, though. I would recommend it if you are bored and just looking for something fluffy, but if it your first Christopher Moore book - please understand that this is not his greatest effort.

Returned it to icekween01.

Journal Entry 26 by icekween01 from St. Louis, Missouri USA on Monday, September 12, 2005

I'll be sending this on to the next person on the list.

Thanks for sharing your book!

Read a couple days ago and have not had a chance to get on the computer long enough to journal it. I thought it was hilarious. The ending was quite a twist. First heard of this guy from my english teacher and I knew I had to read his books. I hope I can read his other books someday. Thanks for sharing the book. Will be sending to next person when I get a chance.

Journal Entry 33 by SheGeek from Akron, Ohio USA on Thursday, March 2, 2006
Received this a few days ago, but didn't have computer access to journal it at the time. I am finishing up another book now and will start this one over the weekend. Perfect timing since I'm in a vampire novel mood...currently reading "The Historian" and an Anita Blake novel! :)
3/13/06 - I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice little twist on the typical vampire story. And, of course, there were some funny bits too.
Mailing to vzfamily on 3/15.

Journal Entry 34 by vzfamily from Willard, Ohio USA on Tuesday, March 21, 2006
I received this in today's mail! Perfect timing as I just finished my other book tonight! I'll start on this one! Thank you for allowing me to join this bookring!

This is only the 2nd Christopher Moore book I've read. I didn't think it was as funny as Fluke - but definitley funny! This is my first 'vampire book' - and it had me cracking up most of the way through!

This was waiting for me when I got home from my road trip to Indiana. I'm looking forward to it and my boyfriend has already dived in. =) Thanks!

Journal Entry 37 by dospescados on Saturday, June 24, 2006
Sorry this has been with me so long. I just read it this week and, like the rest of his books, I loved it. My favorite so far is Coyote Blue but this one is right up there. My boyfriend also read this and enjoyed it.

And the book travels on...

Journal Entry 38 by FortyToo from Westfield, New Jersey USA on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
I was away from home for a week....finally get to check my mail and, *BLAM!*, not 1, but 3--that's right--THREE-- Christopher Moore books are waiting for me. Two of them were bundled in the same package even though they are parts of entirely different rings/rays. LOL! Guess I'm *supposed* to read some Christopher Moore in the next few weeks!

This one, Bloodsucking Fiends, was in the same package as Coyote Blue. (From dospescados. Thank you!) The Stupidest Angel arrived separately.

I sure am glad it's summertime and I'm in the mood to read :) Lamb was probably a Top 2 favorite book last year, so I'm really looking forward to all three of these...but which one first?

Journal Entry 39 by FortyToo from Westfield, New Jersey USA on Thursday, July 13, 2006
So glad that Lamb wasn't a one-hit-wonder! I really enjoyed this book (my second Moore novel). Some memorable supporting characters--The Emperor and his army, Cavuto, and the guy at the cosmetics counter--"You're a winter..."

Thanks for sharing this icekween01 (& BelleMorte)

This will be on its way to LPree tomorrow.

P.S. This has to be the worst picture of Fortitude, but somehow I thought that people reading a book called "Bloodsucking Fiends" might get a kick out of it...

Journal Entry 40 by Lpree from Omaha, Nebraska USA on Tuesday, July 25, 2006
This arrived a couple of days ago. I have a few other rings ahead of it, but will read it as soon as I can.

I'm really looking forward to reading this book as this will be my first Christopher Moore novel. He seems like a really funny writer, so I can't wait to read it!

Journal Entry 41 by Lpree from Omaha, Nebraska USA on Thursday, September 28, 2006
So sorry for the delay! It's been a crazy couple of months here.

anyway, I just finished this book and really enjoyed it. This is my first Christopher Moore book and I look forward to reading more. It was a crazy story, but I couldn't wait to see how it ended!

I've already PM'd the next in line and will mail it out as soon as I get an address.

Thanks again for sharing this book and I apologize again for holding it up!

UPDATE - jdonahue1967 has asked to be skipped and pheelya has a message on her bookshelf to skip her on any rings. So I'm moving down the list until I get an address.

Journal Entry 42 by appletreen from Coalville, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Wednesday, November 29, 2006
I've not had rings or rays for a couple of months and now this is the second to turn up this week! I shall try and get it moved on before Xmas, however I will avoid putting it in the post over the holidays as that tends to be when I lose stuff and it never resurfaces again.

Journal Entry 43 by appletreen from Coalville, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Thursday, December 14, 2006
I really enjoyed this book. I was easy going, humourous and didn't require too much thinking. Just what I needed!

Christopher Moore books seem to be a bit like Marmite, you either love them or hate them; just becuase you liked one doesn't necessarily mean you'll enjoy another. To me that is part of the appeal of his stories as i just don't know what I'm going to get.

I shall pass this on to dodau as soon as she reminds me of her address.

Journal Entry 44 by dodau from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, January 24, 2007
I've already read this one but it doesn't matter as I love his books so much I can easily and happily read it again.

Journal Entry 45 by dodau from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire United Kingdom on Sunday, January 28, 2007

Journal Entry 47 by lostbookisland on Sunday, February 3, 2008
This book has washed ashore at the Lost Book Island after not being heard from for many months. This new arrival will be shown to a room and be allowed a bit of rest before being introduced to the many fun things to do here at the island.

All around there are books sipping cool drinks under shady palms while other books participate in a wide variety of beach sports. There is plenty of sand, surf and sun here for all of the lost and wayward books to enjoy.

It is hoped that very soon a new journal entry will come to rescue this book from the island and send it back out into the BookCrossing world so that it may continue on its journey. It is hoped that the new journal entry will tell all the interested parties where this book has been this long time and where it will be traveling to next.

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
