I hope you enjoy it.
Received along with The Women Who Love Books Too Much Bookring. Thanks! Interestingly, I was planning to be sending the exact same title along with the ring!
Wow just found out that I managed to read this barely short of its 6th anniversary with me! Real sorry for holding the book for so long, I don't always read my TBR in order, but now it's ready to go see the world again!
The title comes from Grimm's "The Robber Bridegroom," about an evil groom who lures three maidens into his lair and devours them, one by one. In Atwood's version,
three women, who go to college together, are linked and bound together by the mysterious and ruthless Zenia, who steals from each her man, money, and more, nearly destroying their lives. The three are relieved when Zenia dies, but one day after attending her funeral, they are shocked to see her in the restaurant where they are enjoying a lunch together.
The story is rich in detail, each character richly fleshed out (except for Zenia, whose true story remains a mystery), and while many passages do not move the plot, they are enjoyable to read.
