Without warning, giant silver ships from deep space appear in the skies above every major city on Earth. Manned by the Overlords, in fifty years, they eliminate ignorance, disease, and poverty. Then this golden age ends--and then the age of Mankind begins....

What a surprise..I tried to read Cradle from Clarke..and just could not get into the story. Unlike this! I just had to know how it would finish. Will Earth and mankind survive?

Deze wordt gereserveerd voor mithrandir-bc en gaat zondag 23-01 mee naar Utrecht.
Van Galadriel gehad op de BC meeting in cafe Averechts, looking forward to it.
This book turned up in a pile of books which I am registering for BC. No idea where it comes from or how it got between the unregistered books. But anyhow, this book is now at my place and I think I will take it with me to the largest meeting in the Netherlands: the Castricum meeting at June 30th.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
At the meeting in Café De Beurs.
This poor book was still at the table towards the end of the BC-meeting in Groningen this weekend. Since a copy of this book is already living somewhere on our bookshelves and my husband likes it very much, I decided to take it with me, read it (since I have not yet gotten around to read our own copy) and then release it to the next reader.
16.02.2014: My feelings about this book are a bit ambiguous, it is very well written and the story gripped me from the start. Although it is a story with several separate story lines that is stretched out over a longer period of time, that has been put into under 200 pages, I at no point had the feeling I was missing out on information or the continuation of certain story lines. My ambiguous feelings towards this book originate from the conclusion of the story, I find it rather disturbing one, yet not impossible, which makes it even more disturbing. This for me is indeed one of the masterpieces of science fiction writing, a gripping story - that although 60 years old by now - still is futuristic science fiction for the world as it is now.
