Journal Entry 9 by time-traveler from Westchester, New York USA on Wednesday, December 29, 2004
Once the holidays were over I was able to concentrate on reading this book. It is the 3rd Anita Shreve book I've read this year, and once again, I realize what a great novelist she is. This was a very simple story, yet powerful, as the characters struggle to overcome their grief. It was fun for me to read this book, since some of the story takes place in Westchester County, NY, which is where I live. Also, back in May, I went to an Anita Shreve book signing at The Tarrytown Library, and she did a reading from Light On Snow. Since then, I've been waiting for it to be released so I could read it. The one word I would use to describe this story is "bittersweet." I'm really glad I read it. Thank you for sending this out on a ring, Rrrcaron. I'll post another journal entry when I get it out in the mail to vivdripper.

This book was all right. I enjoyed the story overall, but agree that Shreve can do much better. I felt like the writing was a little choppy...maybe a little forced, and I didn't have as much sympathy with the characters as I should have given their situation. Thanks for sharing, Rrrcaron, sorry for taking so long. I mailed this off to sweetpea0678 today.

Journal Entry 22 by tantan from Gympie, Queensland Australia on Monday, May 15, 2006
This was the first Anita Shreve I'd read in quite some time, and it's reminded me why I like her books so much. I really enjoyed the story. The settings were very descriptive. I've never lived anywhere with weather even remotely like that in the book so I found the descriptions to be really evocative. It was a very enjoyable read - once I got into it I didn't want to put the book down. Sterile, Redhouse, and landrellec all asked to be skipped so the book will now be heading back to Rrrcaron. *** Edit May 18th, 2006: Posted to Rrrcaron today via Economy Airmail.
