This is a book in a serieis of travel books by Bill Bryson. In this book, Bryson re-traces a trip that he took through Europe 20 years earileir. The book examines the changes in the oplaces and the changes in Bryson during that time.

This soounds very dry, but in fact it is a very funny book.. Bryson does not hold back in his observations, and there are times when he is a person who should just not be left to his own devices.

I got this in the mail in what appears to be a RABCK from red-calla -- Thanks! Nice surprise. I think my wife will particularly enjoy it.

I am a bad BookCrosser. I had made plans to send this to a fellow BXer before the holidays. I thought I did, then found 2 envelopes to be mailed. So I mailed them, but forgot to journal them. Now, everything is out of order and confused. BadgerJim, I hope you and your wife enjoy this.

My wife's rating (I might read it later). She felt parts were amusing, and others interesting, but she also thought Bryson's tendency to be overly critical and smug appeared in places here--she particularly thought he was hard on Switzerland. Thanks to red-calla again for sending this!

I mailed this today from Augusta, Maine to EastCoastGirl in Massachusetts. I'm sending it as a RABCK to fulfill her wish for this book on the cliff1976 site. Since I got it as a RABCK, I thought this was the thing to do with it!

Very much enjoyed the book. Great for anyone planning on visiting Europe. However, read with an open mind, as the book is based on Bill Bryson's opinions, which may vary a lot from your own. It was entertaining and humorous, and I would definitely recommend it.

On its way to frybaby. =)

Hubby and I both read this one while traveling in Japan. We both really enjoyed it and found ourselves laughing out loud at many bits. It fits easily into the traveling life - reading small sections here and there on a train, in a hotel or in a cafe. Bryson's humor is especially poignant when traveling yourself! There are definitely parts of a culture that are noticed in the first encounter, during the first couple weeks that seems to fade after living in a place for an extended period. Bryson captures those funny observations with a flair.

We passed this on to a friend living in Japan who enjoys a funny Bryson book. Welcome to Bookcrossing!
