Journal Entry 1 by SCA2003 from Oak Ridge, Tennessee USA on Friday, October 15, 2004
The world is a kinder, gentler place for pregnant women, or so discovers Jane Taylor, the heroine of Baratz-Logsted's debut novel, upon learning that she's expecting. So when her pregnancy turns out to be a false alarm, Jane impulsively decides to keep up the ruse. She invents details about her OB-GYN and fakes a growing stomach, among other increasingly inventive tricks. Jane is single (her live-in boyfriend didn't appreciate her deception), almost 30, an editor and British. Sound familiar? Baratz-Logsted is refreshingly self-conscious about following the chick-lit trend. As Jane laments, "Sometimes it felt as though you could no longer turn around in a bookshop or at an editorial meeting without being confronted with yet another pink-covered book whose pages told about the wacky adventures of yet another 20-something Londoner who labored in publishing." Jane's own adventures are more daring than many of her fellow single-female heroines, and Baratz-Logsted's premise is hilarious and original. Soon Jane's pregnancy threatens to ruin a budding romance and a project at work. She wishes she could come clean, but she's been offered a book contract about her farce by a colleague who catches her in the act. Jane doesn't start out as the most likable of characters, but she changes so much over the course of the novel, and is so charmingly audacious, that readers will be rooting for her-and wondering what she'll do at the end of the nine months.

I just finished this book and it was a cute, fun read! Although the main character seems a big unbelievable with all the stunts she pulls, but maybe it will all pay off in the sequel. I'm starting Crossing the Line right now and will PM the next person in line. Thanks for sharing!

I am new to Chick-Lit, this was probably my second or third one. I wasn't too impressed with the beginning of the story, or more with the heroine's behavior. After awhile the story does pull you in, as others have said only because you want to see what she will do next. By the end of the book I wasn't in love with Jane, but she does grow on you. I am so glad you deceided to send these togther SCA2003 because the first one kind of leaves you hanging. The second book seems to go a different direction entirely, which looks like it will be interesting. Thanks for sharing.

First of all - I'm really sorry that I've had this book for 2 months!!!! Please accept my apologies for holding up the ring!
I was looking forward to reading this - thinking it was going to be a fluffy, funny book - well, 50 pages in I was still gritting my teeth - wanting to slap the character Jane AND the author Lauren - and fighting the urge to throw the book across the room! I couldn't stand it any longer - I quit reading and I'm getting this book out of my house today - mailing to sharalsbooks! Hope you find more enjoyment in it than I did!!

Journal Entry 18 by StinaRy from Long Beach, California USA on Tuesday, September 20, 2005
Finished this book - even though I agree with CdnBlueRose that I wanted to slap the main character and author. The story was just a little too unbelievable for me. I finished it anyway because, well, I really don't know why. Anyway, I working on the sequel now which is slightly more believable and will send out both to the next person in line ASAP.

Journal Entry 20 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Thursday, October 27, 2005
Received the books yesterday, and I already started reading The Thin Pink Line. I've been dying to read these books! Thank you so much for organising this ring!

Journal Entry 21 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Saturday, November 12, 2005
I liked The Thin Pink Line, and I didn't find Jane as annoying as some previous readers. She is the type of woman I'd normally lose patience with very quickly, but reading this book I felt that I understood her. Somehow her relationships to her mother and sister, as well as her coworkers made it more believable that she would pull a stunt like this.

I also liked how Jane worked in publishing, and how she tried to write her own chick-lit book during the book. "Sometimes it felt as though you could no longer turn around in a bookshop or at an editorial meeting without being confronted with yet another pink-covered book whose pages told about the wacky adventures of yet another 20-something Londoner who labored in publishing." Overall, a very enjoyable, light read. I'll mail this to hetku77 together with its sequel.

I gave both books to myntti today, who will deliver them to hetku77. Thanks for letting me participate in the rings, I appreciate it!

Journal Entry 23 by winghetku77wing from Nokia, Pirkanmaa / Birkaland Finland on Wednesday, October 14, 2009
8.2.2006 I received the book in the local bookcrossing meeting today. Thank you for organizing the ring, SCA2003 and for delivering the both books, myntti!

14.10.2009 I have a 6-week-old baby boy (yes, a real one!) and there's time to read while breastfeeding. So, at last I managed to read this book :). Needless to say that Jane's plan to fake pregnancy all the way through doesn't go smoothly and without all sorts of funny or not-so-funny happenings. In general I found the book entertaining (just perfect reading while breastfeeding), but not believable in many ways. I found it hard to believe that some of Jane's acts would really go through in real life. And the ending of the book (she founds an abandoned baby on church doorstep) is least believable part of the story. I do have to say though I found Jane much more tolerable than Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic!
