9 out of 10

I read this book on a reccommendation of a friend, and very thoroughly enjoyed it. The story revolves around Meredith, who is a Faerie Princess in hiding, convinved that her relatives at the faerie court wish her harm, or death. The story follows Merry as she is inevitably discovered, and must reintegrate herself into the court and determine exactly who is friend and who is foe.

Laurell K. Hamilton has beautiful writing, and truly makes one feel as if the faerie are living among us in our everyday world. At times the book becomes quite sexually graphic, so it's not for younger readers, but is a must read for anyone who still believes in faeries.... or would like to!

Will read asap!

30th Dec...

Will be reading this in a couple of days! Sorry it's taken me so long to get to it! Early Christmas present happened to be the series Roswell on dvd - so I got kind of distracted for a while! Back on track now though! lol!

7 January 2005

Finished reading this a little while ago! LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! It took me a little while to get into it, but more from my impatience to get the Harry Potter books next on my shelf, but after a short while I totally forgot Harry Potter books existed while reading this! It is 2.23am in the morning, I should be in bed, but it forced me to keep reading it! lol!

I'm really looking forward to reading the next books in the series. I still haven't worked out which of the "guys" I like best, they all seem very nice in their own way! I kind of liked Sholto as he seemed kind of sweet in a weird way, it will be interesting to see what kind of a role he plays in future books! Galen is sweet, but Rhys is the one that got me laughing out loud a number of times!

I did get a bit confused for a while with all the new characters to get acquainted with but I browsed the internet and found this great site....
http://gentryinvestigations.com/merry/index.html

It really helped me in placing everyone if I got a bit confused!

Thanks for the book KiwiWonder! I'll be posting it off to nikel27 on the 15th January (hubby's pay day).

I'm not a prude in the slightest way but this book seemed to have a lot of a sex in it. She seemed to jump into bed with everyone she met and although it was a good story the sex detracted from it. However it didn't stop me from picking up the third in the series this morning at a car boot sale. But hopefully that will have less sex in it.

Wow. All the great storytelling I've come to expect from Laurell K. Hamilton. Of course, I wasn't expecting nearly so much sex (silly me). Fortunately, it all advanced the plot. This is probably the closest thing I've ever read to a romance novel, and I found myself hiding the book before people could ask me what I was reading about, but I'm definitely reading the rest of the series.

I have to admit, though, I'm fascinated with the details of her sidhe society and the seelie and unseelie courts. Can't wait to read more!

Cdnbluerose and midwinter asked to be skipped. Off to adrienne10!

9 out of 10

Finished! Thanks so much for sharing this book, KiwiWonder! I can't wait to read the following in the series.

I have read all of Ms. Hamilton's Anita Blake series that are currently out. I am already familiar with her writing. I originally was introduced to her by fans of Anne Bishop and talkland generously shared several of her Anita Blake novels in a ring. I'm not known for patience and checked all the rest of the series out of the library to read before I received the rest of the series on a ring. I'll wait on the rings for Merry, just because if I read them too fast, I'll run out of Laurell K. Hamilton to read!

I apologize for taking so long to get to this book. However, I read it in only a couple days and it is ready to go home (time-traveler asked to be removed).

Because I've read all the Anite Blake novels, I had a hard time not comparing Anita and Merry. (They are very similar.) I enjoyed the new storyline. I enjoyed the characters. It is a fun book.

8 out of 10

Starts off as if it's going to be all sex and no plot but fortunately once she's got the initial bits out of her system it's actually a pretty decent plot. (I'm quite tempted to try the sequels if anyone has them to hand - though poss not to actually spend money on buying them as I only have limited shelfspace at the moment and short on time to register all the ones I have waiting.)

There is some nice use of traditional mythology mixed with some quite fun updating, how the old world would mix with the new, etc. Nice touches include the press acting just like the press do, and a car that likes Merry.

If you're not prone to reading books with a lot of sex in, read it anyhow - you can always just skip the bits that don't appeal and the rest is quite good!
