I've spent more than two months trying to get to the end of this book, and I'm finally waving the white flag and surrendering to the fact that I'm never going to finish it. The author was shortlisted for this year's Booker Prize, which filled me with hope for the quality of Wide Open. Unfortunately, it's a very weird book, with characters so idiosyncratic I found it impossible to relate. I hope whomever picks it up will find Wide Open more enjoyable than I did.
