The Robber Bride

From the cover: "Zenia is beautiful, smart and greedy, by turns manipulative and vulnerable, needy and ruthless; a man's dream and a woman's nightmare. She is also dead. Just to make absolutely sure Tony, Roz and Charis are there for the funeral. But five years on, as the three women share an indulgent, sisterly lunch, the unthinkable happens; 'with waves of ill will flowing out of her like cosmic radiation', Zenia is back..."
This is one of the best books I have ever read. Atwood's specialty is very rare: She is a great narrator and a great writer at the same time.
"An arbitrary choice then, a definitive moment: October 23, 1990. It's a bright clear day, unseasonably warm. It's a Tuesday. The Soviet bloc is crumbling, the old maps are dissolving, the Eastern tribes are on the move again across the shifting borders. There's trouble in the Gulf, the real estate market is crashing, and a large hole has developed in the ozone layer. The sun moves into Scorpio, Tony has lunch at the Toxique with her two friends Roz and Charis, a slight breeze blows in over Lake Ontario, and Zenia returns from the dead"
I will make this into a bookring!!

A good read. Only the second Atwood I have read. I certainly want to read some more. She certainly excels at detail! I like a book that allows you to really get involved with the characters. All in all a good bookring, thank you.

I enjoyed reading this story of friendship, love and hate. I think I missed something towards the end, but it doesn't really matter. An interesting novel, which I've liked as much as the other two I've read by Margaret Atwood.
Thank you very much for sharing, Flicki! Sorry I've kept it so long...

This book will leave France very very soon. I'm giving it to my sister to mail it from Germany when she visits her in-laws there this coming week-end.
