The 6th in series. Thank you Beebarf for loaning this one...again, a book that needs to be read after the preceding installations of Falco's investigations, hence will be lingering on my TBR bookshelf for a while until it's time.
Another excellent adventure for Falco and Helena, and boy was it a gripping one! There's still tension between the leadership in Rome and Falco, due to the fact that one of the sons of the emperor has his eyes on Helena and would like to get rid of poor Falco, but he shows to be very resilient. This adventure sees him and his girl out and about in what we call today the Middle East, baking in the heat of the southern sun and avoiding snakes and scorpions, dealing with high priests and drowned bodies...Falco himself takes a job as a comedy writer and under this new cover he investigates the suspicious deaths... Well worth reading!
