Journal Entry 1 by pkboo from Miami, Florida USA on Saturday, October 09, 2004
"Called La Jardiniere, a resourceful and clever jester to the queen's court, Nicola was a most unlikely person to end up "fool" and friend to Mary, Queen of Scots. But Nicola isn't an ordinary comedian clowning before the court; her sharp tongue is rare amongst the fawning nobles. As fate takes Mary from France to Scotland, and into confrontations with rebellious lords and devious advisors, Nicola remains deep in the queen's inner circle. But when the Scots start to turn on Queen Mary, Nicola struggles to find something-anything-that she, just a fool, can do to save her friend."

UPDATE April 1, 2005: Reserved for Geegal who picked it up off BookRelay. I'm just starting to read it, so should have it out in a few weeks.

I really didn't mean to read through this book so quickly, but it was hard to put it down once I got started - so many tense situations. I don't know how much was fact and how much fiction. Did Nicola herself really exist? I'll have to do a little bit of research to find out.

Journal Entry 5 by Geegal on Friday, June 17, 2005
thanks karendawn. I just recently read anotehr Jane Yolen book so I am curious about this one. Allright I really know now that I am not the biggest fan of Jane Yolen's writing. Her books tend to be a bit lenghty, they are good reads but somehow not quite right. I think, personally, that it's a bit rich of her to criticise other childrens' book authors such as J. K. Rowling of needing better editors when her books aren't that brilliant themselves.

aargh i am scared. buahhhhhhhhhhh? O its my secret spook :-) haha Thank you so much for sending this book (among others) which was on my wish list. Geegal Guess what, just discovered just now that both Phillipa Gregory and this author have books with nearly the same title. Gregory's title is The Queen's Fool, and both books were on my wish list !! As you may know an M-bag is on my way with lots of historical fiction, but thanks to you, i do not have to wait so long, I can feed my need for these kind of books right now. I see you did not like this book so much. well I will let you guys know my thoughts on the book by writing a new J.E when reading. ( marlene waves to pkboo and karendawn) it was great having you as my secret Halloween spook. (check relay site if you don't know what I am talking about) Loved all the books you have given me. The other woman Boy meets girl The Thief Lord and this one xxx

Journal Entry 8 by CrazyDutchwoman from Heemstede, Noord-Holland Netherlands on Saturday, February 25, 2006
Hi I am finally reading this. it took me a while cause I wanted to read all about Henry the VIII, his kids and then about Catharine de medici, she also plays a part in Mary Queen of Scots, her live. OK so While I am reading about Mary in the jean Plaidy books, I decided to read this. (I am still busy reading it, not finished) but It is OK,not superb. Maybe because this is a children's book? I also see some mistakes. it is a nice read, but not as good as for instance The other Queens'fool by Philippa Gregory. Well maybe it gets better. will update this journal.
