Product Description

The main character of John Irving's second novel, written when the author was twenty-nine, is a perpetual graduate student with a birth defect in his urinary tract--and a man on the threshold of committing himself to a second marriage that bears remarkable resemblance to his first....

"Three or four times as funny as most novels."

Received this in the mailbox today along with some bills and letters from the Genie Award for the people who own this place...I guess I should contact them.
Merci for sending it to me, irishajo...John Irving is an author who has yet to disappoint me...and I have never read this one.

Journal Entry 4 by funsour from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada on Sunday, November 21, 2004
maybe it's me who has changed (since the author wrote most of the other books I have read by him AfTeR this one) but I was turned off by both plot and writing style of this one...made me feel...icky and distrustful, wanting to urinate as well as avoid people for the rest of the weekend... Irving's books always entertained me the way one is eNteRtaInEd when staying with a friend for a holiday, but this time it was like I stayed with the friend, the place smelled funny, they had all these snotty friends over, and his dog humped my leg...
Kinda a let down and if it were the LaTeSt book by John Irving I'd be worried I'd never read him again-luckily it was his 2nd...
