From Amazon.com:
Nero Wolfe, the epicurean detective, and his wry and irreverent legman, Archie, team up again to discover why a law office clerk has been murdered for the unlikely offense of submitting a manuscript for publication. With a cryptic quotation from the Bible and a list of names in the dead clerk's pocket as the only clues, Wolfe and Archie take the murderous manuscript to task. "Odd and intriguing. . . . Wolfe and Archie are both in top form." - The New York Times

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
This book will be released in the Esplanade park, near the Runeberg statue, 10.5.2005.
I snapped this book from CandyDarling's hands before it could even reach the table, and now I'm going to add it to my Rex Stout collection! Thanks, CandyDarling, and sorry, the rest of the world, for not having a chance to catch this book!
I decided to pass on this book to Niora!
Received as a surprise gift at the Finnish BCers' summer convention in Suomenlinna, Helsinki today. Thanks! I'm always delighted to read another Wolfe story in English.
I must have read this one before in Finnish (I read every Nero Wolfe mystery available to me within a few months in the spring of 2001, if memory serves, and this one has certainly been translated), but I recalled nothing of the plot and Stout kept me guessing until the very end. Archie is not nearly as entertaining in this book as he's capable of being, but as a mystery, it's masterful. I really like these NW plots in which the "old fatty" sets out with barely a half a clue, yet somehow finds a (generally highly indirect) way to the solution.
Big thanks to harmaja for giving this one to me! I'll have to see what to do with it next - I hope that some Finnish BCer will ask for it, since I'd rather not send English-language Stouts out of the country.
I took the book with me from our local BC meeting.

I really enjoyed this book! Rex Stout and Nero Wolfe never fail me! The story was good and there certainly were murders to investigate but still not too much work for Wolfe.

This was an interesting read, as I can really see how the Rex Stout books have influenced other crime fiction writers. It's sort of amusing that he doesn't really seem to do much detecting. It's all down to Archie to pound the streets, asking the questions.
This will shortly be on its way to another Bookcrosser.

Fun book – a bit dated, but very clever. I enjoyed reading it and would read more if they came across my path. The bit with the guy’s sister—Peggy in Cali—was cute and fun. And I loved the line: "Nothing doing. She was still her—too short, too plump, and too old, but the one and only Mrs. Potter." The last line, too: "What the hell, I thought, in another twenty years Bubblehead may be dead, and age and contours won’t matter much, and I’ll grab her." I wonder if Archie is always that way with a girl in every book. The collaboration between Nero & Archie is interesting; both are so intelligent in different ways and this one had a resolution that hinged on the tiniest of clues. Really interesting.
