Thank you, LyzzyBee!
I am reserving this for my YOU GO GIRL bookbox.
I have read it at least twice, once in school and once on my own a few years ago. I thought it was a good book, obviously so did a lot of others since it is considered a classic.
From the back-
This is a troubling story of crime, sin, guilt, punishment, and expiation. It is set in the rigid moral climate of 17th century New England. The young mother of an illegitimate child confronts her Puritan judges.
However, it is not so much her harsh sentence, but the cruelties of slowly exposed guilt as her lover is revealed, that hold the reader enthralled all the way to the book's poignant climax.

I remember loving this book from its first scene when Hester was admired for the gorgeous needlework of her mark of shame. I haven't read it in years. It is time for a new reading. Thanks to everyone who passed this along to me, particularly LyzzyBee who registered it and the women of the *You Go Girl* Bookbox.
