The book arrived safe and sound along with a lovely bookmark (that I don't know if it's meant for me or if I should try to send it on, but in any case I'll scan it and attach the picture to this entry :)
Update: 12/15/2004
This was an excellent read. I was familiar with the story, given that it's an SF classic and I've caught parts of the movie on TV. I was never engaged enough to watch the whole thing and I guess I transferred the feeling to the novel and expected a "good idea, poor execution" book. It turns out that Margaret Atwood has a great narrative voice. This made me really like the main character (since the story is told in first person). Offred came across as a tough, intelligent woman, yet very, very human in her longing for her past life, from small things like perfume and cigarettes to her family and friends.
From the start, I enjoyed the descriptions of Serena Joy's garden. I felt almost guilty when I got to Offred's explanation for their inclusion, later in the book.
Yesterday I came across a news article about a 'behaviour-modification center' for teenagers in Tranquility Bay, Jamaica. Their techniques reminded me of the Rachel and Leah Re-Education Center in the book. Scary stuff.
I'll try to send the book to Ixion this week.
Update: 12/16/2004
Ixion asked to be skipped. PMing Butternuet.

I received this a few weeks ago, but I have been unable to get to a computer.
I did finish reading it. I was very intrigued by the story. I almost want to read it again to catch everything that was going on, but I will be passing it along soon. Thank you for including me on this ring!
Mailed on Feb 26 2005.

I finished this a few weeks ago, but forgot to journal. Excellent book! The scary thing is, I can almost imagine this happening in the next decade or so.
I've pm'ed the next person in line twice and haven't heard anything yet.

Nobody ever picked it up from where I first dropped it, so I took it back. I sent it out today with a textbook someone had ordered from me.
