This is the second P. C. Cast book I have read, and it's really good. But I thought the first one ("Goodess By Mistake") was so absolutely fabulous I was actually a little dissappointed that this book was just really good! I think this one is just more of a regular romance book with supernatural elements, whereas Goddess By Mistake was more of a fantasy which also had a romance element, and I wasn't expecting the switch. So if you're going to read them, maybe you should read them in reverse order. ;) One isn't the sequel to the other, so that wouldn't even interfere with the storylines in any way.

This is a very fun read--I hope it's next readers really enjoy it!

The back blurb of the book starts "On the night of her twenty-first birthday, Air Force Sergeant Christine Canady wished for one thing: a little magic in her life...." What she doesn't expect is to be turned into a mermaid after her plane crashes into the ocean! And since this is a romance, you can just guess there are some men (and mermen!) waiting in the wings to be introduced into the plot as well!

THIS BOOK IS UP FOR A BOOKRING!

What's a BookRing?
[Got questions on what other things are too? I'd like to thank TexasWren for this handy-dandy little webpage: http://www.texaswren.com/faq_3.html#ring]
It's when one person has a book to share and posts notice of a bookring in the Book Ring and Ray forum. Anyone interested PM's her, she makes up a list of everyone who signed up and posts the list so everyone can see, and the ring begins. The book is mailed to the first person on the list. When that person receives the book, he PM’s Person # 2 on the list for his/her address, reads the book as quickly as possible, makes a journal entry (or several along the way), and mails it off to # 2, who PM's Person # 3 for his/her address, reads and journals the book and sends it off... And eventually the book cycles back to the original owner.

Two to four weeks has become the standard for keeping a book, although if you finish in record time, feel free to send it on sooner. If you find that you need longer than a month, please either send the book on to the next person without reading it (and ask that your name be added back on the end of the list if you like), or at least keep everyone updated with journal entries. If for some reason you'd like to be removed from the list before the book gets to you (you get it elsewhere, or you realize you just won't have time to read it), just PM that you'd like to be skipped.

This is an international bookring, and I'd like to ask anyone who has the option to please get delivery confirmation when they mail the book to the next person (so everyone in the U.S., plus anyone from other places where that's available). I'm only asking this 'cos in my newbie BCer research on rings and rays, I read that it really cuts down on the chances of books just disappearing somewhere mid-way through the ring.

And please remember to make journal entries! That's the best part of joining a ring!

Arrived in the mail yesterday. I'm looking forward to starting it this evening. It's a book with a beautiful cover and a very beautiful bookcrossing sticker with celtic designs on the inside cover.

A wonderful story! The heroine, CC, had such a believable, likeable personality and a terrific career in the USAF.

I was worried that the plot line when she became a mermaid and then washed up on the shore of a medieval Welsh monastery would be hokey, but it wasn't at all! P.C. Cast conveyed the mystery and beauty of this world as well as emphasizing how "everyday" it seemed to the people (and mer-people) who belonged there.

The descriptive detail was a pleasure to read, from the Saudi Arabia-bound cargo plane to Isabel's mint stews; from Dylan's cove of glowing blue fish to the Aretha Franklin cheerleading routine!

I loved the plot line that had CC restoring a statue of the Virgin Mary in the monastery's chapel. The "judgment" scene was extraordinarily exciting, too.

The ending resolved the love story in a perfect, if unexpected, manner. It actually brought tears to my eyes.

I'm re-reading my favorite scenes in the book while waiting to get an address for the next person in the ring.

If Cast's *Goddess by Mistake* is better than this book, I'm definitely going to buy and read it, too!

I was a little worried when I first started reading this book because CC felt so shallow and not much of a character when she was just sitting around her apartment feeling sorry for herself. I didn't think I"d like the rest of the book very much. But once the plane crashed and she became a mermaid, it was like a whole different author. The characters became full and vibrant. The story really took off. I enjoyed this story and would real more books by this author. **Megi53, if you DO buy the other book, let me know! LOL. I'd be happy to join another book ring or ray. I'll get this out to next in line ASAP.

Just finished. Ummm... I'm not sure what to say. Maybe my expectations were too high? Cast's ideas are wonderful and original, but this book just did not live up to its promise. The plot was confusing and I kept going, "But why... huh?" All of the conflict was external to the main characters, who had very little control over the events that were playing out all around them. And on a nit-picky note, the copy-editing was terrible, I found at least half a dozen typos/spelling errors without even looking for them.

I realize I am sounding very down on this book and I don't want to be. I am very grateful to Kryissaen for sharing this. I will look for the author's other novels, since it seems to me that most of the problems with this book will likely fade as the author perfects her craft, and her skills catch up with her imagination.

I will post this on to AceofHearts today.

What an absolutely delightful book!!
I loved the concept and thought that Cast realy tried to describe places very well. I enjoyed CC's bristling of being treated like a medieval princess and especially enjoyed the surprise ending. I would love to read Cast's other books
