Wow, what a generous RABCK! I will listen to this one very soon and then either send off as an RABCK or drop it at a spot where a commuter will pick it up. Thank you so very much. I'll leave another journal entry with my thoughts on the book when I've had a chance to finish it.

I started this one on my way to work this morning but was so stressed out with life's assorted woes I may have to a do a big rewind on my drive home today. More later . . .

I don't know what it is (possibly my distracted state of mind?) but I tried and tried to get involved in this story but found myself constantly rewinding because my mind just wouldn't stay focused. I made it through tape 5 and have given up. I very much appreciate you sending me this and I feel terrible that I couldn't get through it. A friend I trust highly, with similar taste to mine, recommended this to me a few years ago but it didn't turn out to be my kind of story after all. I will send this along to another audio fan when I find a match. Thanks again for sharing!

Received today! Thanks so much, LaurieS. :)

I'll listen to this one as soon as I can. My audio world is being monopolized by the Harry Potter books for the next few weeks though!
Unabridged; 7 cassettes; approximately 10 hours; narrated by George Guidall

Description:
You're about to enter the world of the future—a world turned inside out and upside down, beyond anything you've ever imagined.

Zimbabwe, 2194. General Matsika's three children sneak out of the house on a forbidden adventure and disappear. Immediately, the general calls Africa's most unusual detectives: the Ear, the Eye, and the Arm. Together, these three detectives combine their superhuman powers to find the missing children. It's a dangerous mission that leads them from the seedy streets of the Cow's Guts to the swaying top of the Mile-High MacIlwaine Hotel. With the evil spirits of the past and the villains of the future chasing them all the way, can the Ear, the Eye, and the Arm find the Matsika children before it's too late?

African tribal folklore meets futuristic technology in this brilliantly imaginative Newberry Honor Book. The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm blends adventure, laugh-out-loud humor, and an unforgettable cast of characters (black, brown, white, and even blue) into an extraordinary tale that listeners will find unforgettable.

"A marvelous odyssey across Zimbabwe two hundred years in the future...a splendidly realized fantasy."Kirkus Reviews

7 out of 10

I finished this last week. I must admit that I nearly gave up on it. The story is very slow moving for the first couple of tapes, but it does eventually pick up a better pace, and I found myself interested in the characters. I think this might be a better story to read than to have read to you. This is an interesting mix of science fiction, fantasy, and African folklore, and I'm glad I stuck with it to the end.

I first thought this was a children's book, and I was a bit taken aback by some of the heavier themes as I listened to this (infantcide, teen pregnancy, human sacrifice, etc.). I think this is probably more of a young adult novel.

I'll make this one available once more to let it travel again!
