This book is rather thought-provoking, but it's too technical at times. Some of the bits that are necessary to the story, are given so scientifically as to make a reader want to stop reading then and there. (unless of course the reader is forced to read it for school and only has a limited time to finish, plus write a 350-word response to it.)

This book came in the mail yesterday. I'll add it to my short stack of immediate TBR books (four for book groups, this, and another bookring that is arriving soon). Shouldn't have a problem getting it out of here before Thanksgiving :).

I found this book difficult to read because I knew that at any moment a crushing blow was going to fall on the main character (I hesitate to say hero). Otherwise, Orwell writes well and he kept my attention. I found the Afterword by Erich Fromm, which places _1984_ in the context of other dystopian books, an interesting read as well. Traveling book. I PMed rico12 for an address and will hopefully get the book in the mail this week.

I remember reading 1984 back in high school, but it is much more sobering now that I am a little older. I was especially interested in the description of the low, middle, and upper class system of society.

Thanks again for this bookray. This book will be sent off to Tuz in Brazil on Monday.

Just received this one in the mail! Thanks!
There are a few books ahead of it but I will start on it ASAP.

UPD - June 11th

Please accept my apologies for the delay.

I've read this book a long time ago and I thought I would react differently this time. However, I got so distressed that I almost gave up in a couple of occasions.

Skjaeve asked to be skipped, so it went to kirlepigen.

Thanks for sharing.

I received the book last friday, thankses to previous readers; I will start reading this asap.

6.9.05
This one is a book high in melancholy and depression and simultaneously hopeful in its hopelesness. The ending was unevitable for the innocent can never last; yet it gave me hope. This book is one of those I'm glad I read.

28.9.05
I mailed the book today to ilay, may it arrive swiftly!
