10 out of 10

Citizens of Ember shall be assigned work at twelve years of age....

Lina Mayfleet wants to be a messenger. Instead she draws the dreaded job of Pipeworks laborer, which she'll be working in damp tunnels deep underground.

Doon Harrow draws messenger - and asks Lina to trade because Doon wants to be underground. That's where the generator is, and Doon has ideas about how to fix it. For as long as anyone can remember, the great lights of Ember have kept the endless darkness at bay. But now the lights are beginning to flicker....

Daughter can't wait to get the sequal to read!

I came home from work yesterday and was very excited to find a box full of good books sitting on my bed, including this one. Thank you LGinder for a great trade. I can't wait to read all of these.

7 out of 10

At first I wasn't sure I liked this book very much. It seemed as if I was too old for it, and that just wasn't a fun feeling. But as the story progressed, and I got to know Doon and Lina despite the simple writing style, I really began to enjoy the story. Then BOOM- it ended (I'd only been reading it for a few hours) and now I need to know what happened to these kids. So, overall, it was a good story, although my practical self kept coming up with reasons why Ember could not exist and why the people could not survive those conditions for as long as they did.

Thanks again LGinder for the trade
Perhaps I'll ring/ray this book. I'll think about it.

This bookray seems to have taken a wrong turn on its very first hop. Sometimes that first step can sure be a doozy.

This book did manage to find its way to the Lost Book Island where it may remain to enjoy the resort for as long as it takes to get a new journal entry. It is hoped that this journal entry will come one day soon to clear up the mystery that surrounds this book disappearance.
