WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Arrived this morning. I am looking forward to re-reading this again, after 20 odd years!
I loved this book! I don't know what I found so compelling - the incredible relationship between Sheila and Emma, or the equally incredible events of Sheila's life. As previously mentioned, I read this book many years ago as a young teenager, and it is one of very few books that has touched me enough to stay with me. The courage this woman showed, in a society that was basically hostile to her needs is a lesson to us all.
Sent on to Mance today.

Thanks Flowergirl,

Taken the book down to my Mum's to read.... Will review afterwards
Well - I did find it a compelling read, in spite of its rather clunky style and dated feel.
But thats irrelevant really because the thing it does provide is a wonderful insight into what it means to be sighted. I wish that I would feel such excitement and awe in a simple visit to a greengrocer, or a bird in a tree.
Thanks - will now send it on.

Remarkably this book arrived in New Zealand on 17th November - hope the Postal Service works as well with my Christmas postings that I've left rather late. My first mail ever from Wales so that is exciting. Thanks Mance.
Looks as if this will be a good read. I've just got back from 11 days away and there were four books in our mail box. Super! and, naturally I acquired a few on our travels. Don't we all?
I'll try Seaflower later and see what s/he's about. Can't promise to be very fast though as MT TBR is quite high at the moment.

I am truly ashamed at the length of time it took me to read this book. It got buried on a pile and didn't deserve that sort of treatment.
I found it such a humane story and awe-inspiring in the way Sheila coped with what seem to me to be almost insurmountable objects. The relationship with, and intelligence of, the dog Emma is quite remarkable.
I'll try again to make contact with Seaflower so s/he can finally get to share in the wonderful story.
