Amazon review

He was a stringy mongrel wandering the streets, driven by a ravenous hunger and hunting a quarry he could not define. Somewhere in the depths of his consciousness, the dog they called Fluke knew that he was once a man.

he was just a mongrel dog, but not quite, he was different. memories came to him of another life, a life as a man. The story follows the dog Fluke throught his travells as his memories of a man stirs inside him.

An enjoyable read funny and sad, but a book that keeps you unsure till the end what will happen.

Fluke has arrived. Thankyou for the card & I've selected one of those lovely bookmarks too.

I was a bit disappointed by this. Half the book was waffle where nothing happened & the denouement was unsatisfactory as well. There was so much buildup to nothing. An interesting take on a man in a dog's body though.

Thanks for letting me join in cartref. I'll send it off to sunshinedreamr once I have an address.

I give this book 10 stars! I thought it was great. I don't always like books that are told from an animal's point of view, but James Herbert did an excellent job portraying a dog's life, feelings, and explaining why dogs do the things they do! I felt so bad for Fluke though. No matter what it seemed like he was always running into trouble. The worst was Miss Birdle ... she was pretty weird. I would have taken Fluke in and spoiled him rotten, :-P haha.

Thanks for sharing the book, cartref :) I will send this out to the next person once I recieve an address!

Sending to BigBird2002 today! I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did :)

Journal Entry 10 by BigBird2002 from Mesa, Arizona USA on Thursday, October 20, 2005
This book arrived in the mail. It's going to take me a short while to get to it, because I have a couple of other books I need to finish. I will get to it ASAP, though, to keep the ring moving quickly. I remember seeing this movie many years ago and falling in love with it. Since I don't clearly remember the movie, though, I am breaking my personal rule about not reading a book after seeing the movie. I am looking forward to this book.

Journal Entry 11 by BigBird2002 from Mesa, Arizona USA on Sunday, October 23, 2005
Well, I should have known to stick with my original plan of not reading a book if I have already seen the movie. I could NOT get into this book, because I kept seeing the sights of the movie pass in front of my eyes. I will pass this book along to the next reader ASAP. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.

Fluke was a very good book; interesting and fast paced. Fluke was very believable as a dog/man (or man/dog) and I thought the ending of his story was fitting, minus the dying tramp. Recommended.

Thanks again to cartref for this bookring. I am waiting for your address to send this book home to the UK.
