I picked this out of the lucky dip at the Treasure Hunt. No, I tell a lie - ZB picked this out but decided it was far too pink for him, so he swapped it with me for a book with a pint of beer on the cover!

This sounds really good - it mentions chocolate, which has to be worth a read, and it appears to have footnotes, and I'm a sucker for footnotes in a novel. Will be added to the depressingly large TBR mountain and read asap!

PS Ta for a fab day, the treasure hunt was really good fun and it was lovely to meet you!

9 out of 10

"The Chocolate Run" is a wonderfully moving tale of love, complicated relationships and chocolate. It's chick lit, of course (what book with a pink cover could be anything else?) but chick lit of the highest quality.

Amber works in Leeds, organising a local annual film festival, and she has a very tight group of friends - Jen, her best friend from uni; Matt, Jen's dull boyfriend; and Greg, Matt's best friend, gorgeous-and-he-knows-it, womaniser and major bastard - but also Amber's second-best friend.

Amber and Greg spend one drunken night together - an huge mistake in Amber's eyes, but Greg announces she's the love of his life and they somehow fall into a relationship, but decide to keep it secret from their friends until they know it's for real. Amber's convinced it won't last - after all, she's known Greg too long, she knows what a tart he is.

Amber's life is further complicated by her family - it's an unusual setup, to say the least - and she's scared of getting too close to someone and being hurt. But sometimes you have to take a risk...

One other thing about Amber - she's a chocolate addict, and she defines everyone she meets by the type of chocolate bar they represent - dairy milk for a comfortable old friend, peanut brittle for her hard-hearted mum ...

This was a really enjoyable read thast had me in tears at times and laughing out loud at others. The characters are well drawn and utterly believable and I really felt I knew them and cared about what happened to them. The chocolate element makes this just that little bit different from all the other chick lit novels out there, but really this is a feel-good novel that will leave you feeling all nice and warm and gooey!

my only slight criticism is of the footnotes - not the notes themselves, which form the funniest parts of the book at times, but the numbers denoting a footnote are tiny and easy to miss, and I often found myself scanning the page for the number and then not getting the joke at the time the author wanted. Only a slight niggle, though, and not one that detracted greatly from my enjoyment.

I'm going to see if anyone would like to read this, but I'd like it back to read again sometime!

Arrived this morning with chocolate - how cool is that ;-0

Hopefully, will get to this soon as I quite fancy something light and frothy, but still a few books ahead on Mt TBR so will see how it goes.

7 out of 10

This was a fun, light-hearted read that I whipped through on a snowy thursday after being confinded to home by the weather with a houseful of children so I needed something easy to follow and be able to pick up in small moments of time when the kids weren't killing each other! LOL

It was perfect for the situation, like curling up with a cup of hot chocolate. Mostly it was an enjoyable, funny book, but with a little bit of depth to it so as not to be chewing gum for the eyes if that makes sense. It wasn't complete froth like some chick lit can be.

Well I couldn't get on with this book at all...despite the chocolate! I had several attempts - thought I was in the wrong 'mood' at first, but I still didn't 'gel' with it. Strange how some books grab you and some don't. Thanks for the opportunity to read it though, Chelseagirl - off to Gothmarcus when I have his address.

I'm having my first BookCrossing Senior Moment: I have absolutely no recollection of signing up for this ray, but here it is! And, hey, it mentions chocolate, so it must (I hope) be good!

The lead character and I share a lot of attributes. We both like arthouse films, have moved to Leeds from elsewhere and have a best friend who is going out with a man called Matt! However, that's where the similarities end!

This was slightly above average chick-lit in my opinion, made even better by the fact that it was set here in Leeds, my hometown, so I knew a lot of the shops, restaurants and locations it featured (although its heroine was from the south and had moved not, so the author didn't alienate the chattering classes!). A lot of books in this genre have been getting on my nerves lately but this one was different. The lead character didn't lead a pointless life so I couldn't get angry at that, for example. I'll look out for other books by Dorothy Koomson methinks.

Updated 4 May: On its way to EllyMae58 after spotting it on her wishlist :)

"Who needs love when you've got chocolate?" says the front of this book. My sentiments exactly!! :)

I thought maybe I'd forgotten about signing up for a bookring, but it appears I'm only receiving a surprise book wish! Thank you Gothmarcus! So kind of you to send me this book. I will do my best to read this - Argh! Little text! - as soon as I can, and then keep it moving!
