Journal Entry 4 by karendawn from Lafayette, Indiana USA on Monday, January 16, 2006
Owing to the fact that I don't know much about Italian history, especially the political history, I fear that I missed a great deal that I might otherwise have gotten from this book. The footnotes were really not that helpful and would take quite a bit of background reading to really understand why Machiavelli wrote this and what effect it may have had. But in the more abstract sense of how a prince should behave, I found some very intriguing ideas. Although this was written in a later time period than what I am dealing with, I am interested in this mirror for princes genre and was happy to see what this one was like.
