Journal Entry 2 by SCRAM33 from Wilmington, North Carolina USA on Sunday, September 12, 2004
I really wanted to like this more. I think if there were fewer main characters it would have been a little easier to like. It seemed just when I got invested in a character the author moved on to another character. The Austen themes were interesting, but I expected this to be a little less vulgar as well. Passing this on as a bookring. Hopefully, they will enjoy it more!

Journal Entry 4 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Saturday, October 23, 2004
It's arrived - yey!! As a dedicated Jane Austen fan how could I resist a title like this one. I also love talking books so I'm doubly delighted to have the chance to experience this. I have about four hours of the extremely compelling "Speaker for the Dead" to listen to and then I can begin!

Journal Entry 5 by Starry-Starry from Llandrindod Wells, Wales United Kingdom on Saturday, October 30, 2004
I LOVED this book! The characters were wonderfully drawn, especially Jocelyn - I hope to be just like her (it's entirely possible that I already am). From the opening chapter, where Fowler says everyone has their own Jane Austen, I was enchanted. I enjoyed the way JA's books were subtley woven into the narrative and I am sure with further readings I will get even more from it because I will definitely be buying my own copy. I liked the narrator's voice too, she seemed to employ just the right amount of irony. My only complaint is that it did move on a little too quickly to the next character, particularly on Prudy's chapter, I would have liked to spend a little longer in her life. Thank you SCRAM33! See it was worth sending out on a bookring :o) I'll send it onto Loribee as soon as I have an address. 6th November 2004 Sending it today - hope you enjoy it Loribee!

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this while in the kitchen, a cd each day or two. Now I feel I must revisit Austen! It will be off to Meliluc tomorrow.

OK, I must admit it, I cheated ... I didn't have the patience to listen to it all the way through, so I bought the book ... It's a nice story, but I must admit I wasn't as enthusiastic about it as some of you. But the good thing is, I just can't wait to get my Complete Novels of Jane Austen's back, I really need to read them all over again :-D I'll send it to sheepseeker as soon as I get the adress ...

Here they are! The CDs were waiting for me after my holidays with a nice little suprise from meliluc... Thank's a lot! I am not too sure about what to think about this audiobook. Whenever the author really got me interested, she moved on to another character. Nevertheless the Austen connections were entertaining enough to keep me going... Thanks for sharing this with us, SCRAM33. On May,6 the CDs will travel on to Portugal...

I have to agree with some of the others that just when I started getting interested in one character the focus would move to one of the other characters. Overall, not a bad listen though. Will mail off to luvsbooks as soon as I get their address.

I've heard such mixed reviews on this one and I'll be so busy in the next month I'm going to pass this on to the next person. I'll contact becca-mo for her address and then send it off. Thanks for including me in this. Sorry I didn't add much to the journaling. :-)

wow! this turned up in the mail today with a postmark almost two months old! Apparently it has taken a little sidetrip through the cracks and crevices of the postal system. All tht matters though is that it is safe and sound. :o) Will put back on the shelf to be shared with another interested listener.
