Girl with a Pearl Earring

Truly charming story! What a talented writer I must say. It's true what is written in the back cover: "Through the eyes of sixteen-year old Griet, the world of 1600s Holland comes dazzlingly alive ... "
Watching the movie right after I finished reading the book was a mistake. I should have been known me, even with good actors in it, I fell disappointed. The movie was too "fast" if you can understad what I mean. And also why did they remove that scene?
I'm going to organize an international bookring among fellow bookcrossers who have this in their wishlist (according the wishes on Jul 13)
Edit Aug 16. The list of participators was not long enough, so I posted also to 'Bookrings, Bookrays, and Bookboxes' forum. Maybe the list will be too long then :)
The list of participators so far:
1. Ratling, Austria/Spain
2. nona35, Greece, prefers Europe
3. gadl, France, ships anywhere
4. thejuiceisloose, Australia, ships anywhere
5. LilPatoodle, USA <--- book has been here over a year! *stalled* I may say.
6. moraelyn, USA, prefers US only, but also INT. if needed
7. Neuilly, USA, prefers US only, but also INT. if needed
8. BrookeH, USA, ships anywhere
9. MaryZee, USA, ships anywhere

I'll post the book to Ratling tomorrow. Happy reading!
I FINALLY received it! I am sorry that this has taken so long - it missed me by one day and my room-mate had to send it from Vienna to Las Palmas... To avoid any further delays, I have started reading instantly and I already like it!! Thank you!
A truly great novel, which gives life to a painting, I'd never even have thought about. It also sheds light on the social structure in 17th Europe, but in a very personal and intimate way. I liked it very much! Thank you!
I sent it to nona35 today

After the first few pages I knew I would love this book. I liked the narration in the first person, using the words of a very sensible maid. I can't tell how many times I've flipped the book to gaze at the painting on the cover and wonder how long Chevalier must had contemplated it to imagine such a story. It'll certainly change the way I look at paintings from now on.
Here is my preferred paragraph, so I can read it again whenever I wish:
Thanks Chrisim and everyone in-between!
I've posted the book to thejuiceisloose this morning.

"The girls did not know I had a sister and so would not understand I could lose one. Only Aleydis seemed to sense that something was wrong. She sometimes came to sit by me pushing her body close to mine like a pup burrowing into its mother's fur for warmth. She comforted me in a simple way that no one else could."
Thanks Chrisim and everyone in-between!

I received this book two days ago, and am about to start reading it tonight. Will check back in a few days! :)
Wow, this book certainly has traveled! Well, it has reached its third continent now. I really am looking forward to reading it!
Girl with a Pearl Earring is stalled. Lilpatoodle is the last who possessed the book. Apparently she''s not been interested in answering my PMs or contacting the next readers. Or something has happened to her. Maybe we''ll never know. That''t life. Happy bookcrossing to the rest of us!
I read this book when I first got it ... and somehow it got put into a large paper bag with a bunch of other books ... and tonight I found it while I was cleaning. I guess I will have to PM the next person on the list.
I'm sorry I broke the chain. I fell away from BC for quite a while. I still don't want to join any new bookrings/rays/boxes, but I suppose I really should get this book going again. Maybe it will rekindle my interest.
