Collection of short stories. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize 2000. Bought as part of the Times book offer.

From the back cover:

"Jhumpa Lahiri's elegant stories tell the lives of Indians in exile, of people navigating between the strict traditions they've inherited and the baffling New World they must encounter every day. Whether set in Boston or Bengal, these sublimely understated stories, spiced with humour and subtle detail, speak with eloquence to anyone who has ever felt the yearnings of exile or the emotional confusion of the outsider."

I don't read many short stories, I prefer novels to give me time to get to know and understand the characters involved but Lahiri could well convince me otherwise. Each of these stories is wonderful, a snapshot of a life written with such beauty. My favourite had to be the final story - The Third and Final Continent.

Promised to redhouse through the reverse wishlist book relay.

Arrived this morning. Our postman gets here very early so I took it back to bed for my usual 20 minute lay-in and have read the first story already.
If the rest are this good then I am going to love it. Thanks so much
