8 out of 10

I got this book for free with a magazine. And it was surprisingly good. Has good office humour and quirky characters. It's about a guy named Arthur who has just dumped his long-term g/f, had a nervous breakdown at work, and then suddenly finds himself as the boss of his town planning dept. His challenge is to make Coventry the "European City of Culture" and to get his love-life back on track, as well as fulfilling his "destiny" which is revealed by his quirky therapist. It's a fun chick-lit read!

2 out of 10

I started this book and just could not get into it. I did not find Arthur very interesting and it had a very desperate and depressing tone to the book. I could already figure out how the book would go and was not in the mood for a predictable story.

Have PM'ed nest person for their addy.

Thanks PrincessJCM for sharing this book!!!

Keep smilin!

Just got this one in the mail today. I've only read one other Jenny Colgan book and recall enjoying it, so I'm looking forward to this one too. Though I do wonder about how good a book can be when it comes free with a magazine.... I guess I'll find out! Thanks Doris and PrincessJCM!

Well, parts of the story (especially towards the end) were definitely not predictable. I sometimes wasn't sure what to make of this book... it had an interesting techique of every now and then including another character's perspective, which wasn't bad, but the entire medieval theme was a bit odd. I'm not sure if I would have wanted less of it, or for its purpose to have been clearer, but it kept popping up and I'm not sure it contributed anything at all to the story... this seemed in a way almost like a first attempt at chick-lit for boys, with a male protagonist and all this King Arthur stuff. But I did actually enjoy reading the whole thing, especially as I said, since it didn't quite go where I expected. I also realized that I enjoyed reading it more because there's no plot summary on the back of the book like most novels have, so I really had no clue what it was going to be about and that made it all the more interesting and made me realize how many other books I've read with an eye towards the synopsis and waiting for certain things to happen or just paying too much attention to things that haven't happened yet.

Definitely a unique book, better than I expected and a nice change of pace from some of the books I've read lately that all seem cut from the same cloth.

Will be mailing to weareatthebeach tomorrow!

9 out of 10

This book was completely unusual and unique and totally unexpected. It is not really chick lit or lad lit or mystery or fantasy or romance or folklore but all of those rolled up into one unusual package. Trust me if this book bores you in the beginning (it did me) don't quit until you get to about page 150. Then if you aren't intrigued, you can put it down. I've read other Jenny Colgan books and I just didn't think that this book would be anything like this! Thank you for sharing this really different story.

This is on its way to SandDanz.

Just received this book... I have a few other rings in front of it, but hopefully they'll move fast. I'll update this entry to show when I start it. I hopen ot to delay things too much. :)

Update 4/12:

I forgot to post that I started this a few days ago. I'm currently on page 93 and bored with it, but I'll give it to page 150 as suggested above before completely writing it off.

The book is here, thanks katayoun. Actually it arrived already last Friday but I have been on the road. And thanks PrincessJCM for sharing this book. I have three ring books to read before this one so I´m afraid I won´t be able to read this in one month but I´ll do my best.

First of all, I´m sorry I kept this book so long.

I started to read this book two times but finally I had to give up, this book wasn´t meant to me. I got nearly to the page 100 the second time and waited all the time when there was going to happen something...

But, thanks for arranging this ring! And books are not only stories printed, I always think about the unwritten stories about countries the book has travelled and the people who has read this book.

Today book left for Germany to Nikel27, happy reading!
