From the dust jacket:
Chaz Perrone might be the only marine scientist in the world who doesn't know which way the Gulf Stream runs. He might also be the only one who went into biology just to make a killing, and now he's found a way- doctoring water samples so that a ruthless agribusiness tycoon can continue illegally dumping fertilizer into the endangered Everglades. When Chaz suspects that his wife, Joey, has figured out his scam, he pushes her overboard from a cruise liner into the night-dark Atlantic. Unfortunately for Chaz, his doesn't die in the fall.
Clinging blindly to a bale of Jamaican pot, Joey Perrone is plucked from the ocean by former cop and current loner Mick Stranahan. Instead of rushing to the police and reporting her husband's crime, Joey decides to stay dead and (with Mick's help) screw with Chaz until he screws himself.
As Joey haunts and taunts her homicidal husband, as Chaz's cold-blooded cohorts in pollution grow uneasy about his ineptitude and increasingly erratic behavior, as Mick Stranahan discovers that six failed marriages and years of island solitude haven't killed the reckless romantic in him, we're taken on a hilarious, full-throttle, pure Hiaasen ride through the warped politics and mayhem of the human environment, and the human heart.

Hardback, purchased to read and release.

This arrived over the weekend with two other rings. I'll get to this asap and get it moving again. I've never read anything by this author but I've heard he's very funny. I can't wait to read this!

Journal Entry 7 by roadrunner from Spring, Texas USA on Tuesday, December 21, 2004
This book is just pure FUN! Chaz is one of the most inept bad guys I've ever read about. If it weren't for doing things wrong, he would never get anything done. I've never read any books by this author but he has definitely moved to the top of my list. Thank you Bunnybee for sharing and introducing to my new favorite author. I'll try to get this out today (depending on the lines at the post office). If not, tomorrow for sure (via Media Mail).

Journal Entry 8 by pammykn from Decatur, Alabama USA on Friday, December 24, 2004

God, I love Carl Hiaasen :)

Just what you may expect from the Florida native and author of ten previous novels. Features my new favorite description of the ultimate slimeball and inept male: "F*ckwit, reprobate, horndog, whorehopper--an impressive litany of contempt for Chaz Perrone." An enjoyable read featuring contemporary political issues (the decimation of the Florida Everglades) and the quirky twists and turns of disfunctional human relationships.

This will head out to calicocollie in tomorrow's mail.

Journal Entry 12 by calicocollie from Irondequoit, New York USA on Wednesday, February 16, 2005

This is the first book I've read by this author, now I'll have to look for the others :) There were times when this was laugh-out-loud funny. I really liked the character development. I won't say more, don't want to give too much away!

I have PM'd jenvince for the next address.
