I REALLY enjoyed this bbok. Thanks again, Jamesmum for sharing it. It is the first book by Michael Moore that I have read. It is not as powerful as his films, but it certainly gets his message across. While I didn't agree with everything on his agenda, I certainly agree that a change is drastically necessary. I love the way he articulates the major problems of America, I was disappointed by his lack of realistic solutions. I am still waiting for an address from KFcamper. I PM'd last week and again today. I have the book packed and ready. It will be mailed as soon as I get the address.

Thanks jamesmum for sharing! I mostly enjoyed this book. BUT--Michael Moore has an acid wit and parts of this book are so negative and snide (towards whites, blacks, the rich, the poor, democrats, republicans, corporations, the courts, and laws of all kinds etc., etc.) I found myself getting angry at him for being such a jerk. I also think his wife must be a saint. I realize that he is trying to get us all riled up and spurred into action, but I kind of felt that this book was way over the top and actually paints him as kind of a crackpot. (And I thought I was a cynic about politics and this county)!

Salinger007 mentioned that Moore didn't present enough actual solutions to his complaints and I very much agree with that statement.

Incidentally I have seen Bowling for Columbine and Farenheit 911 and felt that they did a great job of making their points without all the nonstop complaining. Thanks for making me think, Michael!

This book definately left me wanting to do more research & find out more knowledge on the "truth". Sometimes I think Moore gets a little over the top but sometimes you have to be a little more outrageous if you want to be heard. I mailed this out Saturday to jlynnt and of course I can't find the confirmation number right now. I will post it as soon as I go through my desk. Thank you.

I got this in the mail yesterday. I'll be riding in the car for an hour today so I should be able to get a good start on it...and I'm going to be visiting with a relative who does not have good feelings toward Michael Moore. I could have fun with this book today! HeeHee!

8 out of 10

I just finished this book last night. What an eye-opener! I enjoyed Michael Moore's sarcastic description of the state of the nation, although it left me feeling depressed since I can relate to a number of issues he complains about (ie: high cost of heath care/insurance, making barely enough to scrape by). Like the other readers, I wished he'd offer more suggestions of things to do about changing politics in the US, but starting on page 25 he does offer these suggestions:
1. Contact your representative on a weekly basis, and get three friends to do the same.
2. Dog Bush Wherever He Goes.
3. Force the Democrats to do their job.
4. YOU must run for office.

Sending to the next person on the list pending an address.

UPDATE 12/8/04: Ok, I got an address last night. I'll be going to the post office later this week.

well. i read "Dude, Where's My Country" just before this one, and was a bit aggravated at the end. but forced myself to read this one too...both books seemed almost the same. there was lots of complaining....although Moore did offer some ways to get involved & make a change. i did learn a lot from his views on the political party system in this country. but most of the rest of the essays--on racism, sexism, environmentalism, edj-u-ca-shun, etc--were arrogant, and, to quoste another reader, snide. he seemed to repeat himself quite a bit. (OKAY, we get it! white people suck! men suck! Bush is a loser! shut up already!!!)

didn't actually check his references like i did with "Where's my country" (i was kind of aggravated) but again i was impressed with how complete both books are.

This seems somewhat dated although the actions were still revelant. It was interesting and somehow not as virulent as his later book.

Reserved for the next reader.

What a great book! Although it was a very quick and easy read (I had it done by the end of the day I started it), I found it to be funny and informative. I think Michael Moore is doing a great thing by writing these books and making his movies: A lot of people don't bother to stay informed about what's going on in the world, or even their own country. Young people especially tend to shy away from reading news, newspapers, or informative literature. Michael Moore has a way of taking important issues and current events and making them easy to understand and entertaining to read. I think this encourages people, who wouldn't otherwise do so, to read and become aware of what's going on around them, and that in turn will provoke them into taking some action.

Well, the ring is done, and jamesmum says she doesn't need the book back, so I'm going to see who else out there might find this a valuable read.
