Got it! I am looking forward to reading this! I enjoyed the movie with Angelina Jolie, but I am sure that there is more to Gia than THAT. Reading soon!
Well, I have to say that I will only watch the movie now for the reason of Angelina Jolie getting naked.
Hollywood took many many liberties with the movie. Reading the book told me a lot about the girl/woman Gia, much more than my previous distorted version.
Thank you SO much for allowing me to read this book!
PMing next person to send it on...

Okay, have received silverstarry's address. It is all packaged and ready to go, and I hope to get to the post office this week!
This was a great book. I was expecting a biography of Gia's life, but the author also offered a lot of behind the scenes information about the worlds of modeling, fashion, and photography, as well the New York club scene and drug use in the 80s. It's interesting to see how far public perception of bisexuality/homosexuality and AIDS have come in the past twenty years (although we still have quite a way to go).
The author interviewed many of Gia's friends, family, and professional associates - this produces some conflicting stories but a very vivid picture of Gia's life. Interestingly, this biography did not turn out to be a cautionary tale against modeling so much as a story about a girl who wanted so badly to love and be loved.
Although the book included a lot of photos of Gia, she looks so different in each picture that I'm off to google her in the hopes of finding some more pictures of her.
I haven't seen the Angelina Jolie movie yet, but now that I've read this book I will be adding it to my Netflix list. Thanks to zeena666 for sharing this book with us!

Received it today - will read soon.
I'm working on this one but (to me) it's a really hard read. I like the bio but all the background info on photographers and the modeling industry seems to really drag.
Ok I've really tried but I just can't get into this book. I'm passing it on! But thanks for letting me try it.

This book arrived Saturday but I was unable to get computer time over the weekend. I'm smack in the middle of another bookring and have one ahead of this but if I'll get to it as soon as I can. If life gets in the way, I'll PM the next in line so as not to hold it up too long. *Sigh* Why do these always arrive in groups?
Ugh, I've got to face reality and pass this along to the next in line as I'll never be able to get to it in a timely manner. My house is utter chaos as we're renovating our bedroom and I have the huge tome "The Time Traveller's Wife" glaring at me from the corner to read for a bookring before I ever think about picking up this one. I'm afraid I'll end up losing this if I don't send along to the next in line. So, as much as it pained me to do so, I have PM'd Grover3d (salinger007 has turned off the PM function) and will pass it along when I get an address. Maybe I can read this sometime in the future . . . I apologize for holding it up.

I got this today. I should be able to get started on this in the next couple of days. I will journal again when I finish.
This was kind of a long read, but I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed all the extra information about the fashion industry and other models. I found it all fascinating.
I'm disappointed to find out how much they changed things for the movie. It seems that they took several of Gia's girlfriends and lumped them into one composite character. It makes me see the movie so different. I'll have to get my own copy of this book. I like it better.
I'm sending this on to MarciNYC. Delivery confirmation #02805213907207989781

This one arrived a few days ago - sorry I didn't make a journal entry sooner. (MisterNYC got an iPod for his birthday and has since been monopolising the computer. *sigh*)
Since I'm last on the list, I'm not going to 'rush' to read this, but I should get it turned around in a month. I'm in the process of a couple busy weeks at work right now, but by next weekend, things should calm down and I'll get back to my normal schedule. Look for this to be read to come home in June!

I finished this but honestly but the time I was done, I just didn't care anymore. While Gia's death might have been tragic, I didn't really feel sorry for her. (I don't mean to sound callous, but I just didn't connect with her on any level so it's hard to muster sympathy.) I didn't really care for the world of high fashion/modeling before I read this and the book didn't change my mind.
Thanks for letting me read it, but it's not one of my favourite reads and I probably wouldn't rush to re-read it. Still I know more about Gia than I probably wanted to know. Heading back to NYC today - as soon as I get to the post office.
