10 out of 10

I only recently discovered Andrea Levy's writing and am so glad I did. I've really enjoyed everything she has written so far. Her characters are always interesting and engaging. Her books have humour and a touch of sadness here and there. If you've never read anything by her yet, now is the time.

I picked this book up from our gathering at the Edinburgh Book Festival. I look forward to reading it as bookfrogster give it such a good verbal review.

Thanks bookfrogster!

7 out of 10

Faith is desperately trying to have the perfect life she imagines for herself; a good career and her independence away from her family. Her parents are from Jamaica, but Faith regards herself as English through and through. She is upset when her parents announce their plans to retire to Jamaica and she decides to visit the country herself to find out what makes it so special. Whilst there she discovers her 'roots' from her Aunt's telling of stories about her extended family.
