Reading in a foreign language is one thing; speaking in a foreign language is something completely different, not to mention writing...
Above that I don't have a French spelling checker on my computer. There fore I'm going to give my comment on the book in English.
This was my first French-written book in 10 years. I was on holiday in France and talked a lot in French and after two weeks I thought: let's give it a go.
Maybe it's because Amélie Nothomb is Belgian, but I had absolutely no difficulty understanding this book. The introduction on the back of the book is not really representative for the whole story. It’s not a thriller or anything. It’s about how things in life automatically lead to other things. About why misery is sometimes running in certain families.
When I finished the book it gave me a hopeful feeling after all.
I’m going to reward this one with an eight, because I enjoyed reading this book, but most of all because it gave me the courage to read French more often.

Merci, Wilmar, le livre est arrivé hier! Bookcrossing, pour moi aussi, c'est l'occasion de retrouver le plaisir der lire en français. Et puisque nous partageons la même passion, il se trouve que nous partageons nos livres :)Robert des noms propres sera mon premier livre d'Amélie Nothomb. Et moi qui pensais qu'elle est française.. ;) Une erreur classique, nombreux sont les gens qui pensent que Jacques Brel était français aussi... Le livre sera lu très prochainement, parce que j'ai une Bookbox à remplir avec de la litérature français, ou plutôt francophone :)
