RELEASE NOTES:
postal release to cheesygiraffe as a RABCK and probally the wrong book on her wishlist, but enjoy, LOL
Received this very funny book in the mail today from cartref. Thanks so much for the book. :) Also thanks for the apple pen, very cute, and the beautiful bookmark with a fairy, and the cute postcard. I appreciate it very much!! Thanks so much Geraldine! ((((((((Big Hugs))))))
Fred's a hero to Penelope and to their friends Pip and Constance, but to the rest of the world he can seem a little strange: he uses a pogo stick to plant seeds in the garden, tries his hand at worm-charming when slug-taming gets boring and runs the local branch of BLOBB.

I love this book! I was in my mailbox when I got home, and I read it before I even had time to make a journal entry! One of my favorites: Fred and Penelope's morning ablutions were choreographed to perfection -- I never saw a deodorant ballet before! Thanks for sending it along!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
I didn't realize that I'd been smart enough (temporarily) to journal this book! I sent it out in a packet with other books, in the hopes that the new readers will love it as much as I did. Makes me want to find the FIRST book! :-)
I saw Peggysmum's positive reaction in reading this book during the September Canberra BC Meeting - so I made sure I got it after she had finished reading it. I could of read it while at the Meeting, but I just wanted to spend more time with this book, so now it is with me. Welcome to New South Wales, Australia, little book.
Oooooh, don't you just hate it when someone makes a journal entry out of sequence?
One of the pleasures of having BookCrossing "superpowers" is the ability to edit the book details. I've added in the ISBN to give this book the correct cover image.
Now I'm gonna have to bring my Cleo Laine tape to add to your Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole on Sunday. Be warned - I know ALL the words and sing REALLY badly.
Take two - It's still with me, so it's still mine. So I now reclaim it from the virtual hands of the awesome Peggysmum and from the all POWERFUL Skyring. That's amazing power you have Skyring. I'm impressed. I'm jeolous as well.
Now that the Picton meeting has been changed from 10.00 to some time around lunch, then this book is either going to be wild released along the Hume Highway somewhere b/w Canberra and Picton, or will be released at Picton instead.
Perhaps it's a bit unconventional to hold a conversation in the middle of a book release, but what the hey?
The Picton gathering is sort of a sister-city deal with Canberra. The blazing unstoppable Woosang heads up an all-star cast of champion BookCrossers, and pulls in the crowds from Western Sydney as well. We meet in the old Post Office on the main street, which is now a cafe/art gallery/OBCZ, and share potato wedges, good fellowship and books.
Hi cheesygiraffe - join in the conversation any time. Chatting in journals is much more reliable than the PM system most of the time! Anyway, Skyring started it.
Was that thing in the Canberra Times yesterday? I wasn't at work so didn't get the paper. Now I'm going to have to steal one from the National Library! See some of you tomorrow when it's time to terrorise Picton.
I *may* have mentioned BookCrossing when asked about book groups by a very nice local journalist. I *may* have mentioned unusual release places and themed releases. I *may* have mentioned a certain globetrotting BookCrosser whose nominal place of residence in Canberra. Everything else is down to Skrying! There is no story without him. ;P
BTW, how come the article and the several follow up mentions) are not in "In the News"? And is our journalist doing a follow up on the forthcoming Belconnen Community Festival mega-release?
I guess we are keeping our poor journalist rather busy. He has yet to know that there has been released 100 military books on Anzac Parade, for the 88th Australia Memorial Day, just a few minutes ago.
Journal Entry 29 by cartref from Derby, not specified not specified on Thursday, November 10, 2005
just what did i do when i let this book Loose LOL :-)
EEErrrrrrrr. Rats Rats Rats. The bookcrossing site only listed 97 books released last night. I did more than that! I must of wrote some release notes for some of these military books for tomorrow's mass relase in Belconnen. Silly Unbalanced, silly.
I wanted "100" to be shown, not 97. What type of number is 97, 'tis nothing when compared to the beautiful 100. Who in this world aims for 97? No one. Its 100 or nothing as far as I'm concerned. I want 3 figures to show up not 2. Hmmmm, what to do, what to do. Ah ha. Found another "military" book. Keep looking, keep looking. There's another that escaped my eye. That's 99. Just one more to go .... maybe I can get away with a meaningless pulp fiction Tom Clancy style book, ... yeah I'll do that.
Ok I shall drive back tonight to Anzac Parade just to release 3 more "military" books before Rememberance Day is over, just to make the magical ***100***.
Holy Smokes, cartref! If you had never sent this book to cheer me up. Then we wouldn't have cheered everybody else up by passing it on. I'm glad everybody is enjoying and enjoying using this journal as a forum. lol
Congrats on the big release, Unbalanced! Skyking you're a hoot as always.
Thanks cheesygiraffe. As promised, and under the threat of the wrath of Peggysmum, I have released a further 3 books. And I did scan up and down all of Anzac parade, and discovered only 2 books left. Woo hoo. I did have visions of drowned books, or books torn apart by angry peace activists, of books being placed into canons etc, but saw no signs of such things. Whew.
Oh my, unbalanced, I've just checked the "go hunting" pages and there are 101. 101 releases is just showing off! Well done. :D
See you and Skyring later on this morning for further adventures in mega-releasing at Belconnen Community Fair. My only worry - our books will out number the people in attendance.
Picked this up at the Meetup. I had no idea such a journalling history accompanied it! I have read some of Fred before and found the cartoons wonderfully absurd. I am a fan of the black cat always doing something odd in each frame.
Odd, Odd? Nothing "odd" about my journal entries. In fact there's nothing odd with any of them. All BCer's are sane, normal, balanced, very nice people to be with and hang around. It is the others, out there, the ones who do not know us, the ignorant, the unbelievers, the ones who find our lovely books and don't journal them, the ones who find our precious books and not only don't journal them, but keep the precious for themselves.... yes it is they who are not right, it is they, those things out there, that are odd and peculiar ...we are the upholders of wisdom, sanity, knowledge, guardians of the truth, and as for them, well ...
Snip Odd, Odd? Nothing "odd" about my journal entries. In fact there's nothing odd with any of them. All BCer's are sane, normal, balanced, very nice people to be with and hang around /snip
Okay truth be told we are all odd. Weird! Strange! lol Nothing wrong with that. ;) reader1107 that's so sweet of you. Do you want any books from my AVL or TBR shelf? :)
Fred has decided to attend the NZ Bookcrossing Convention with Penelope and the cat. He is making travel arrangements.
Journal Entry 49 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Monday, February 6, 2006
Fred, Penelope and the cat were found lurking in my mailbox this morning thanks Goodthinkingmax, I see what you mean about the interesting journal entries! Hello to all that are reading this, and a big Hi! to Skyring, will see you at the convention in a few days.
This book was thrust into my hands at the end of our wonderful NZ convention. What a past this book has, hope I can keep up with the chit chat! I will read this on my way to meetup tonight and put it into some poor unsuspecting bookcrosser's hands!
Now that was a very quick trip to New Zealand Fred! I thought you may have told us about the NZ bookcrossing Convention, but you have been rather silent. Did Skyring behave himself? I assumed you enjoyed it, and I hope you get round Victoria Australia.
By the way, Woosang got married while you were in New Zealand.
Journal Entry 54 by boreal from Dunedin, Otago New Zealand on Tuesday, February 21, 2006
It was a whistle-stop tour of New Zealand. I am sorry to say that Fred spent much of the convention languishing in the bottom of my bag. He did briefly reaquaint himself with Skyring here at the Boreal house though. I finally remembered him and thrust him into the welcoming arms of Meganh! The convention was wonderful! Great people and lovely weather -even the Aussies were reaching for the sun-block. Skyring naturally did one of his famous water releases, into the Leith Stream by the University this time -just after you waved to the webcam Peggysmum! I will attach a convention photo when I get to the other computer. Bye Fred, have enjoyed meeting you!
I was delighted to meet Fred again on the other side of the Tasman. It WAS an excellent convention and we all had a whale of a time.
I particularly liked the fact that the convention organisers swore me to secrecy on a number of things that I read about in the newspaper the next day. But all worked well and having the Lord Mayor himself welcome us to the city was very gratifying.
After having mentioned how much I loved Fred, I was presented with a little book of Bogor, who is a quirky Kiwi indeed. Now we know how lonely forestry workers spend their time.
Not sure about Boreal's comment "thrust him into the welcoming arms of Meganh!" I have a feeling this little book has more journalled about it than the number of words inside it's cover! I had not heard of the Fred books before and had a quiet chuckle at Fred and Penelope's antics. I passed it on to an unsuspecting bookcrosser at a fun meetup last night. I loved the convention even if Fred missed most of it. Boreal made us all beautiful papau shell bookstrings which were in our goodie bags along with lots of other treasures from around the world. We released hundreds of books and felt very welcomed in the beautiful city of Dunedin which turned on perfect weather. PS Skyring - Bogor was thrust into leith's hands and is yet to be journalled.
Interested parties are welcome to apply for time with Big Fat Fred. Caution: There may be similar side effects to those apparent in the above journal entries.
I've (ahem) put my name down for the BFFC, but may I just say that much as I adored Dunedin with its wonderful Scottish heritage, it was a delight to see Leith enjoying the atmosphere even more, what with the Water of Leith and the Pipe Bands and all the names and haggis of Scotland.
99 will reserve her comments for books which deserve her scorn, such as those promoting behaviours unbecoming to cats. In a brief statement, she says she is a great admirer of Anthony the cat and his calm disposition throughout Fred's experiments and often unpredictable lifestyle.
I don't know if I will be able to be as chatty as the rest of you, hee hee, but I did enjoy this little book. My favourite one is:
During testing of his latest invention, the 'Winter Doggy Suit', Fred realised it had one glaring design fault.
I also liked the one where Fred had the Teletubbies in bed. I showed it to my partner, and he goes, "What are those, aliens?" "NO! They're Teletubbies, don't you know Teletubbies?" "Well, aren't they aliens?" "Uh...actually, I don't know..."
Hee hee.... anyways, thanks for bringing this to meet-up last night, meganh, I will be sure to pass it on to someone else! (^_^)

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
I am bringing this little gem with me to meet-up tomorrow, I'm sure it will find another appreciative reader! :)
Good heavens! I had no idea I was also picking up a bookcrossing archive with this book. Now I know why leeny37 was so insistent I acquire this one. I've had a flip through, and a giggle, and will read and pass this on to another appreciative bookcrosser.
This was given to me at the brunch meetup, some enabling-type person insisting that I read it. If I'd known that the journal entries were longer than the book, would I have still agreed I wonder? :)
Oh... was that you? I wasn't sure...... much! :) I don't think I can allow Redguard to journal this one now, he might see that written offer and plan another surprise gathering for me. At least we are continuing the apparent tradition of journalling this book on a plentiful basis!
I'll just chime in here - from Hong Kong - and say that it's great to see the journalling continue. Peggysmum, the Great Big Fat Bald Book of Fred will be posted to you soon. I rocked up to the PO on Friday just before closing time, and they'd closed!
Now awaiting someone in my family to take the package to the PO.
Just chiming in from Hong Kong indeed! It's no problem waiting for Big Fat Fred until you return, Skyring. Seem's kinda silly to post it 12 kms and you'll be back before we know it. Give my love to Cari - I'm posting her a care package this week. Promise.
Glad to see there are book pushers enablers in Melbourne, too, lmn60. :)
Well I'm just chiming in from Melbourne, interrupting this banter with a word from your advertiser! Please note all you enablers (book pushers) that all enabling should be directed towards the Aussie cheat book Little Johhnie which has just climbed to the all time high #10 most travelled book!
Cheesy, I have your cookies but not your address. I must not've saved it from last year. I have two boxes of Thin Mints. Do you want them both? Or I can post one to our friends who are enjoying this book so much, but the only Oz address I have is Skyring -- who isn't there. Then again, he might be back by the time the cookies (biscuits) arrive. PM me :-)
I've finished this wonderful little book, my favourite being Fred's mobile phone. It will be passed on to the next unsuspecting victim this evening at meetup!
Turns out I was the unsuspecting victim at the last meetup (actually the one before, I'm a slacker at journalling!) the couple of pages that I've read so far have cracked me up so I'll report back when I'm done.
This will probably be taken along to the brunch meetup on June 4th and yet again passed along!
Oh man! Oh man! I've never seen so many journal entries! I jumped on this at the meetup because I used to buy Fred birthday cards for people ... perhaps I should have been more suspicious at the pregnant silence that followed from tramgirl, kzel and puppymummy ...
Hello to all the previous readers!
This was great fun and even my boyfriend, who normally never finishes books, sat there and pored over it from cover to cover, snickering appreciatively. My personal favourites were "the luxury deep-pile carpet," where poor Anthony the cat looks rather like a bounding kangaroo trying to keep its head above the surface, and Fred's "Extra Strong Teabags." Who couldn't use one of those after a busy day?!
I'd like to send this too a certain Canadian who is actually called Fred who might enjoy it. Fred - if you read this - you must keep the book moving!
I've decided that a book with this much history should not be sent to someone who may not pass it on ... I'll take it back to the meet up tonight and share it with some other unwary BXer.
Last night I attended my first meetup in months and this little book was thrust into my hands. It didn't take long to "read", but I haven't gone through all the journal entries yet. What an adventure Fred has been having! He should be on his way to Finland soon.
So Fred goes Finland! I visited the Melbourne bc-meeting last week, and everybody seemed to be so excited about the idea of Fred coming to Europe that I just had to take him with me :)! I'm sure he'll find many new friends here, I found his humour quite similar to mine when I was reading some pages, so he´ll have a big new continent to conquer in Europe...
We look forward to hearing of Fred's adventures in Finland - hoping he doesn't have to learn Finnish to participate in the fun over there. And I'm sure all the Finnish bookcrossers are "sane, normal, balanced, very nice people to be with and hang around" too!
Yes, it was very nice to meet you, Katyan - hope the conference went well while you were in Melbourne, and best wishes to you and all the Finnish bookcrossers!
This small book made me happy when I read it after returning home from my summer vacation travels, feeling really crushed and sad. So it was nice to read this book and get some joy in my heart :) The humour was really original, it remainded me a little of Gary Larson´s "The Far Side" -series, but it was still different. I think I´ll read this book at least once more and after I´ll pass it on to some other local bookcrossers. I think Finnish people would enjoy this kind of humour too, so I wish Fred will find as many new Finnish bookcrosser friends as possible... In the pic there´s a lake near our home.
A lake? You're not planning on giving Fred a swim are you? That would be the finish.
This book is rapidly becoming a legend - it's gone from the UK to the USA, around Australia with a side trip to New Zealand and now it's in Finland! Where to next, I wonder?
In the same period, my own life has changed out of all recognition. I discovered in November 2004 just how much fun it was to attend BookCrossing conventions and spend time with some wonderful people. Since then I've been around the world three and a half times, met an amazing number of amazing BookCrossers and want to meet more.
How's Hong Kong, someone asked? Well, since then I've been back twice over, I've never actually left the airport, but I always have enough time for a shower and a quick internet connection. I love it!
I've been reading Fred again and again, and each time I like him more. So here's a couple of more stars to him. And no, don't worry, Fred will not go swimming next. I'll take him to another city in Finland, Tampere, on Thursday when I'll have a work congress there, and in the evening we'll meet with the local bookcrossers. I have an intuition that maybe someone there would enjoy getting to know Fred... And I just noticed from amazon.com that there's a whole library of books about Fred! I hope I'll find them one day & get to know more about Fred's life! I'll add here later a picture of my favourite scenes from this book (the one where Fred is wondering what he's wife is doing every night at the cellar & the one where they really like their new neighbors :)).
I leafed through Fred at the local BookCrossers' Brandy & Books meetup at cazfi's place last week. Yeah, it's a legend already (I mean Fred; cazfi's place isn't too bad, either, let alone the brandy :-D)...
I took this today at the BC meeting of Tampere, and read it in the bus during my way home. My favourite pictures were that of a poor dog with a jogging coat, and that of teletubbies. Yes, I'm one of those weird persons who think the teletubbies look cute and cuddly. ;)
Fred really wasn't a dissappointment, when I got to know him last night! I laughed tears in my eyes - unfortunately my husband said I'm strange, if I find these stories funny... Fantastic book!! I want to read more about Fred and Penelope! This cute book goes next to Margih.
What a traveller Fred is! I once just glanced one page in our meet-up here in Tampere and burst in laugh, so I needed to get this book for a read! Thanks, lukutuoli and everyone who have kept this book traveling:)
I got this funny little book from Margih in our local BC meeting yesterday. Almost 100 journal entries, wow! Fred, keep on moving!
EDIT 8th Feb. Oops. i almost forgot to JE again! Fred and Penelope are a sympathetic couple. I haven't heard of them before. I didn't laugh only smiled gently. Sorry, Fred is not my type ;) Next reader will be em64.
The famous Fred came home with me from the meetup. Fred had already made bit of a reputation at the meetups when people had bursted out laughing while taking a glance at the book. Quite a traveller Fred is...
Can't help it, I like Fred :-) I had already seen some of the strips at the meetups where we had shared quite a few laughs. My absolute favorite was the one telling about Fred and Penelope's marriage going through a difficult phase; it was hilarious.
8.3. I got this in the monthly meeting today. Nice to meet you, Fred!
17.3. I read the little book during the flight from Pirkkala to Stockholm yesterday on the way to Oslo for a lengthened weekend. Fred is a funny little fellow :). I read the book together with my boyfriend and at times we laughed to different things - men... I will leave Fred here to Oslo to get to know the vikings better.
Fred has arrived safely in Oslo, and was handed to me from my Finnish friend this morning. I had a quick look on my way home after Fred has walked around in Oslo with us all day, but I will devote more time to him (and this book journal) quite soon! :)
Fred is a weird guy, whose life I've enjoyed looking into now. I loved the cat! :) (and the journal entries here, hehe)
I will now pass the book onto some other unexpecting bookcrosser as soon as I get the chance.
