Reading next. Reserved for mskdm20. She accepted this as part of a book relay. I tried to read this but I can't into it. I also wanted to note that 30 pages in the back where upside and backwards. It looks like it was a binding mistake.

Journal Entry 5 by mskdm20 from Anna, Texas USA on Thursday, March 17, 2005
A wonderful book. Growing up in a poor family, Barbara's face and body begin to twist and grow into mummy like porportions due to malnutrition. Teased as a kid in highschool about her moles and BAD teeth, she finally saves up enough money to get the moles removed and figures out a way to receive braces. After her moles have been removed and her teeth have been fixed, Barbara begins to exercise to get a beautiful body. One day at an Alabama health spa, she overhears a man saying to his friend, "She has a nice body, I'd like to nail her, but would have to put a bag over her face." The the men laugh and walk away. After hearing the horrible words and mean laughter, Barbara signs up for experimental plastic surgery and in 6 months time becomes beautiful. The same man who told her to put a bag over her head, even asks her out on a date. Feeling so shocked and disgusted, Barbara has to take a year of therapy. Based on a true story of the author's life. Highly recommened.

Journal Entry 8 by guinaveve from Mason, Ohio USA on Saturday, February 18, 2006
This book is very sad and very interesting. I really felt for Barbara and her siblings. It is hard for me to understand how parents can treat their children that way. The father was neglectful of his family, and when he wasn't neglecting them he was abusing them. His wife loved him through it all, forgiving and accepting his crazy behaviour towards herself and the children. I don't understand that at all. It is one thing to say she didn't have anywhere to go or anything else to do, but she really wanted to be with him and loved him through it all. Barbara's adult life was touched on at the end. I really hope that what she has done with her life has brought her happiness. Everyone deserves it, but her 1000 times over after the way she grew up. This book, as mentioned before, has some improper binding. The story is all there, but a section from the end is flipped upside down. It reverts back to normal by the very end of the book, but you do have to look through some pages to determine where to read. I paid attention to the page numbers. I folded the messed up pages down in the corner to hopefully make is easier for the next reader to figure out where they need to be. The book is well worth putting up with this minor annoyance of upside down pages to read.
