Journal Entry 2 by GrizzlyGirl from Peoria, Arizona USA on Wednesday, November 17, 2004
Unfortunatly, I did not enjoy this book very much. I don't think it was very funny and I think it strayed from the subject. I was under the impression that it was about a pet pug, but it turned out to be the story of the author's international adoption. Not that I don't find that interesting, but it's just not what I was expecting. The woman obviously loved her pugs, but almost to the point where it was annoying. I mean, I love my dog a great deal, but I don't find it necessary to take her EVERYWHERE with me. I also thought that the author was a bit shallow. Example: "I actually made Duke promise that if the baby hurt the pugs, we could send the baby back." WHAT??? If the baby hurt the dogs, get that baby some help! Another example: "I requested a cute child, under a year old, preferably with red hair. I didn't care what sex." Huh? What adoption agency let her through? I don't know if this was some odd attempt at humor, but I wasn't laughing.

I really enjoyed the book even though it was not what I expected. I do not have a pug and never plan to get one. My animals are controlling enough as it is, and I don't think I could handle it if I ended up with a Clara. It was funny to read about her, but living with her would be rough. I was sadden to read the enclosed newspaper clippings regarding Kaufman's death. It would have been neat to read Clara The Middle Years to learn more about Nicholas & the pugs living together and how Kaufman dealt with them.

Ummm... I thought it was pretty bad! Granted I gave up about half way through, could not bear to go any farther! If a woman has to go to a therapist because she thinks one dog is jealous of another.... It is quite possible there is no help available. lol! Good news though, I brought it to my sister on t-giving and she went nuts! So happy to get the book, she started reading it that day. She says its great so far and really likes it. To each their own! I told her she has to journal! She promised she would. I am ever hopeful...

You have to be crazy about pugs to love this book, and I am. I'd have 16 of the little buggers running around if I could, but then I'd never sleep because of all the snoring! This book is easily read by anyone that can identify with the unique personalities of these dogs, and by anyone that owns the movie Milo & Otis!! The only thing I didn't like about it is that it strayed from being about the pugs to being about a baby adoption, but all in all I loved it. I wouldn't pick it up if you can't identify with being pug crazy!!
