9 out of 10

From the back cover:
"We hear the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. Unfortunately, Sister Mary Loquacious of the Chattering Order has misplaced the Antichrist. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride motorcycles. And the representatives from Heaven and Hell have decided they actually like the human race..."

Have been a fan of Gaiman for awhile, but have never read Pratchett; even so, I had reasonably high hopes for this book. How much did I like this book? It has pre-clearance for the Future Child's bedtime reading by his/her multitude of aunts and uncles, all of whom will eventually do their tour of babysitting. I like it enough to go hunt down a copy to keep and maybe even for a few gifts. I do have to admit that I'd rather have had some details about the Antichrist's meeting with his father. I have to wonder if it was edited to meet the word quota. I don't imagine that the authors couldn't handle the scene.

Here are a few noteworthy passages:
"Human beings mostly aren't [evil]. They just get carried away by new ideas, like dressing up in jackboots and shooting people, or dressing up in white sheets and lynching people, or dressing up in tie-dye jeans and playing guitars at people. Offer people a new creed with a costume and their hearts and minds will follow...it may help to understand human affairs to be clear that most of the triumphs and tragedies of history are caused...by people being fundamentally people."

"Serve everyone right if witches took over the whole country and made everyone eat health food and not go to church and dance around with no clothes on."

"It's hard enough being people as it is, without other people coming and messin' you around...I don't see what's so triffic about creating people as people and then gettin' upset 'cos they act like people...anyway, if you stopped tellin' people it's all sorted out after they're dead, they might try sorting it all out while they're alive. If *I* was in charge, I'd try makin' people live a lot longer...it'd be a lot more interestin' and they might start thinkin' about the sort of things they're doin' to all the environment and the ecology, because they'll still be around in a hundred year's time."
