Journal Entry 3 by Hero from Dublin, Co. Dublin Ireland on Wednesday, August 18, 2004
Glad it arrived safely and is right! Meant to get some more comments on the book itself before its arrival with Stensler but didn't get to it, so I'll leave it with a request to anyone on the ring who knows please to say if the Santa's elves in Macy's stories are fictional or real-life experience (or a mixture). Thanks!

Journal Entry 5 by geniedances from Houston, Texas USA on Monday, September 06, 2004
'Holidays on Ice' arrived on Friday and I read it over the weekend. As with all collections of short stories, I liked some better than others. At any rate, its a worthwile read. 'SantaLand Diaries' is my favorite! I could just picture some of the incidents that were mentioned. The parents were the most outrageous of those visiting Santa. It seemed realistic enough to where I also wondered if this was at least partial fact. 'Dinah, The Christmas Whore' was my second favorite. I enjoyed all of the characters in this one. It also seemed to have more realistic content than some of the other stories. 'Seasons Greetings to Our Friends and Family' and 'Christmas Means Giving' were a little too over the top for my taste. Now I'm going to contact CaptainJack so I can send it on its way.

Journal Entry 6 by CaptainJack from Duluth, Georgia USA on Monday, September 20, 2004

Yippee! This arrived today. I will drop my current read and get right through this. It is a small book, so shouldn't take long. Thanks for sharing, Stensler!!! And thank you for rescuing the ring, Hero. I also had a Sedaris bookring that got "stuck" and was rescued by a generous bookcrosser. You were very kind to do this and we appreciate you!

Journal Entry 7 by CaptainJack from Duluth, Georgia USA on Tuesday, September 21, 2004
Just finished this. Santaland Diaries was a scream. I laughed so hard. After that, it was sort of down hill the rest of the way. I did love two lines from Based on a True Story: "Unlike certain other people, I respected her grief and kept my distance for the better part of a week ..." and "... I don't know about you, but it makes me mad as hell to see a child run down by an inferior network." Thanks for sharing this! I already have the next reader's address and will get this in the mail right away.

Journal Entry 9 by CaptainJack from Duluth, Georgia USA on Saturday, October 16, 2004
This was NOT mailed out mid-September, as earlier reported. I do apologize. My son has admitted that he did not post a number of things until nearly two weeks after he had originally told me he had. I am forcing him to read Crime and Punishment - backwards - in Russian. I think this is sufficient punishment for besmirching my previously spotless BC reputation. Sorry about that everybody!

Journal Entry 11 by EvaLowrain from Louisville, Kentucky USA on Wednesday, October 20, 2004
This was a surprisingly fast read - of course, my recent ankle injury and required bedrest probably helped speed things along. Sedaris is his usual spunky self. My favorite, by far, was the first essay on his experience as a Macy's Elf. Very, very funny and poignant. I also loved the concept of the "typical" Christmas family newsletter gone awry, but I guess since I've become a mom I find dead baby stories less funny, and that kinda ruined it for me. I can see how it would've been much more morbidly funny before I had a baby, though. I enjoyed it very much - thanks for sharing. It'll ship to weeblet on Friday.

Journal Entry 14 by weeblet from Jacksonville, Florida USA on Saturday, October 30, 2004

mmm'kay. i really wish he would stick to his autobiographical/observation schtick. 'seasons greetings' was a little bit upsetting, and all together yukky. 'christmas means giving' was funny, but it was so completely silly. 'dinah the christmas whore' was a repeat, wasn't it? i loved it :) my favorite was 'front row center'. hilarious! moving on when i get an address...

Heh, this is the first David Sedaris I've read, but I've often listened to him on NPR and I can hear his Billy Holiday singing voice echoing in my head every time I think of him. I laughed so hard reading this! He's really got a very Spe-cial kind of cynicism. :) My favorites were Seasons Greetings and Christmas Means Giving. Not a big fan of Front Row Center (but also never been to one of these productions) Off in the mail tomorrow, with any luck spaceystacy will get it just in time for Christmas.

Received in the post just before Christmas. Read today while completing some chores. On the way to petaluka. Sedaris's stories have me in stitches. My favorites in this one are the ones about Macy's department store. Thanks to Hero for restarting the ring. :-)
