I love the way this book is marketed...if you can't judge a book by its cover than don't even look at this one! I think that unlike most chick lit the writing in this book is very smart. The plot has a little more depth than most books which meant that it didn't read really fast. I loved the characters. I wanted to know more about Luke and less about Ora! But, the reason why I gave this book a seven instead of a nine is that I absolutely, positively despised the ending and I don't even care that Joy thinks she's happy! My advice to all other readers is that they should enjoy this book and skip that last five pages!
This book is on its way to the UK for tabyorky to pass judgement on it! Thanks Flakes for sharing I was happy to have read it!

I enjoyed this book to an extent. It was okay but the ending sucked! It did not resolve the issues for me and felt rushed. It was interesting and a bit not true to life but I liked it. Good writing style and character development (to an extent) but there were a lot and sometimes hard to keep track of them.
They are making a movie of this book with Nicole Kidman. We'll see how that goes!!!
PMing next on the list.

Received yesterday. Will get to this as soon as I can, do have some rings/rays ahead of it.
I liked this book a lot. Would definitely like to read more by this author. As a previous reader said, I wish Luke's character had been more developed. He seemed like a cool guy. I liked Henry, she sure had some great lines! LOL! I felt Gabe didn't deserve Joy, he deserves someone better. He's too good for her.
I have to agree with the others - the ending was a complete stinker! Yuck! Not what I expected at all and I was actually disappointed. I was let down and I wished I hadn't read the last two chapters.
This will be in the mail tomorrow, to journey to Iran.

It was a slow read at the beginning, but as the whole story proceeded it became quite better.
The most interesting part of the book was when Gabe proposed to Joy via the intercom. I didn't expect her to say "I do", but the ending turned everything upside down. It quite let me down in the end!

SORRY EVERYONE FOR THE DELAY :(
Received in the mail yesterday. I have one bookring ahead of it and then I'll read and pass it along. Looks like a good one!
Though parts of the book were predictable and typical to the genre, I thought this author had a fresh twist to the romance stories typically found in chick lit. I enjoyed Joy's witty comments and some of the characters (i.e. Henry and Miss Trixie) provided comic relief. Although most of the book was funny, I thought the topic of "to marry or not to marry" was a pretty deep one. Cosper found a great way to combine questioning the traditional ritual along with humorous scenes of weddings and their preparations. In my opinion the end of the novel drug a little bit and got more and more predictable the more I read. I, like other reviewers, absolutely loathed the ending. I do think I would read more by this author, but I hope she picks better endings.
PMing faeriemyst for an address so I can pass it along ASAP.

Mailed today to faeriemyst to keep the ring moving. Thanks for sharing Flakes!
I thought this was a very well-written book. The characters were realistic and so were their actions. I liked Joy, Henry, and Charles the most. Gabriel, it seemed, was pretty one-dimensional. He didn't seem like he was a real guy...he was too perfect and had no faults. Is there a guy like that in real life? I don't think so. I thought the ending, except for one thing, was what had to happen, and was true to life. I'll write more about that in a hidden spoiler. I really wish I could read another book for more adventures with Joy and Henry and find out what happens in Joy's life. She's one of the most realistic characters I've read in a chick-lit book. Imagine...a heroine who doesn't want to get married and live happily ever after. :)
I did hate the way Gabriel ended the relationship, it seemed uncharacteristic and well, pretty lame. It did seem to me that after Joy confessed everything that would have been a better reason for breaking up...maybe it's just me, I don't know. She did a lot of things that were really stupid and a little crazy. Then he does a Mr. Hyde and changes, he makes a split-second-decision and says it over because she told him she didn't want to get married, but she loves him. I really thought he would be one to give it time and see what happens, but I guess people can be like that, so in a way it is realistic, too. I did hate how he pretty much told her to get out of their apartment. What the heck? It's hers too! Why shouldn't he be the one to leave for good?
Here's an Amazon review I totally agree with:
Very enjoyable, but with some major flaws
I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of this book-- picked it up expecting the usual chick-lit clothes-boys froth-- instead got a frenetic, literate (I LOVE Joy's job!) witty play with some very fun characters (e.g., Henry, and the wonderful Charles) and some rather amusing subplots (e.g., the love-letter writing). It was also rather enjoyable to have a heroine who Doesn't want to get married.
However, there were a couple of major problems. First, Gabe. As presumably the second most important character in the book, one might expect him to be, well, a real guy. More than one-dimensional. All I could say about him (as opposed to Henry, who while somewhat stereotypical at least has a presence) at the book's end was that he has a cute butt, his parents are rich, and he's a nice guy. That's IT. Oh, and maybe he doesn't like marriage. Or maybe he does. Who knows? In particular, nothing was built up for his actions at the book's climax. He had no reason to act that way, but then, he had no reason to act any other way. I found myself asking, "Why'd he do that?" and not being able to find an answer.
Second, and perhaps most importantly, Joy's reasoning on the major marriage issue makes NO SENSE given her actions and her other beliefs. For example, she never breaks a promise. But she's worried about marriage because it's, like, a promise. Um, what? She's also afraid of marriage because she would start relying on it in a stupidly trusting way (by the way, splendid irony with the way other characters-- Ora, Joy's mom-- are shown to buy into the reliance on marriage in ways that directly contradict their own situations), and yet, it's pretty clear from the way she treats Gabe at various points in the book that making those promises would if anything make her MORE neurotic and distrustful, not less. And we're supposed to believe not only that she thinks these things, but that they are major epiphanies that other characters have about her. It's too bad, because some of the points Joy makes are worth thinking about, but her actions totally discourage the reader from pondering those points.
It's all ready to go home to Flakes now!
