Bleachers

High school all-American Neely Crenshaw was probably the best quarterback ever to play for the legendary Messina Spartans. Fifteen years have gone by since those glory days, and Neely has come home to Messina to bury Coach Eddie Rake, the man who molded the Spartans into an unbeatable football dynasty.
Now, as Coach Rake's "boys" sit in the bleachers waiting for the dimming field lights to signal his passing, they replay the old games, relive the old glories, and try to decide once and for all whether they love Eddie Rake --- or hate him. For Neely Crenshaw, a man who must finally forgive his coach --- and himself --- before he can get on with his life, the stakes are especially high.

Bookray Rules
1. Reading has to be relaxing, I find. So I'm not going to set a rule that you have to finish the book within one month or within three weeks. But, of course it's not preferable that the book will stall somewhere. Please keep in mind others are waiting to read the book so keeping it for two months is not appropriate either. If you don’t think you will be able to read the book in a timely manner, please let me know. I can move you further down the list, if necessary.
2. When the book arrives, please let us know that you received it, by making a journal entry.
3. Start reading :-) When you're more than halfway through the book, PM the next person for their address.
4. When you've finished the book, make another journal entry with your thoughts.
5. Release the book to the next person on the list.
6. The last person on the list may release the book in the manner of their choosing!
7. Have Fun & Happy Reading!

Good book, but didn't contain the normal elements of the usual John Grisham novel. Quick read.

APOLOGIES! I thought I jounralled that I'd received this, but apparently not.
This was a good, quick read for me (1 day). This reminded me of the movie "Varsity Blues." I'm interested to know which really came first.
I'll be sending out to sweetpea0678 on Monday.

arrived safe and sound, will get to soon.
Very fast read. I thought the book was good, but thought the thing that happened between Neely and the coach was going to be much more than it was.
bksfamly wants to be skipped, so sending off to jenvince.

Thanks - I'll get to this soon.
I have to agree with everyone else that this was a quick read. Granted, this wasn't a legal thriller, but I still enjoyed it. I remember in high school, it seemed the football team really had a strong bond. This book gave some insight into that. Even though Coach Rake was TOUGH, what an influence he had on these boys for the rest of their lives. I think it was pretty cool, to tell you the truth. This was a nice change from all the mysteries and chick lits I've been reading lately. LOL!

Received this book yesterday. I'll start it as soon as I finish "Life of Pi". Thanks!
I finished this book last night. While not a big fan of football, I am a Grisham fan and his writing was as good as ever in this book.
I'll be sending it to Vikki tomorrow or Monday.

Sending off to Vikki today.
This was a light read and OK. Unfortunately, I didn't understand the American football terminology - there was a lot of it! - which detracted from my enjoyment.
June 6 - on its way to momofap.

This book arrived in the mail today! I hope to start reading it around June 24th, I need to finish two bookrings that came to me before this one! It looks like an interesting and short read!
I found this book to be really interesting to read. I did know before reading this book that some towns worship the game of football, but this book really explained the whole concept of the worship to me. I have always enjoyed reading books written by John Grisham and this book was another one I thought was wonderful from cover-to-cover.

Got this in the mail recently and will read soon. I have a couple of book ahead of this one yet!!!
I found this book to be much better than I expected!!! I grew up in a small town and know about how the football players were local heros!!! Good fast read.
Sent this book to a friend who recently joined bookcrossing. Happy reading!!!

Just received this book from lisabb2. Planning to read it soon.
This book was much better than I expected. I agreed to read it on a friend's recommendation, but not being a sports fan (definitely not!) I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this one. However, I love most of John Grisham's books and trust my friend's judgement so gave it a try. It was a great book and I read through it quickly. The book moves you right along.
Started a book ray for this one. Mailed to the first person on Saturday (September 24, 2005).
Sorry to take so long to post!!!! Received the book and just started reading this evening. Only on page 16, but already hooked.
