Journal Entry 1 by trochee from Seattle, Washington USA on Sunday, July 25, 2004
Russo sets a very high target: evil in a universe with God. He winds up with *almost* all the marbles -- a successful Lovecraftian high-SF space-exploration horror, encountering the Alien Other [perhaps the Leviathan of the Deep?], and living to tell the tale. This has moments of Moby Dick, moments of HP Lovecraft, and echoes of Russel's _The Sparrow_, in that there are representatives of the Catholic Church along on these space colonization efforts. However, he falls a little short -- while an excellent author, it feels a little too close to _Alien_. Definitely worth a read. This copy is autographed by the author.
