WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Back to my beloved Argentina, I left the book in the house of a very dear friend, so that she'll have the chance of reading something in English!!! Now keep saying I never think of you my dear Patito!! (Q yegua q sos!!!).By the way, the book was quite good, although not as good as Trainspotting. I know they even shot a film inspired by the book, but I haven't seen it.. Is it good or bad?

Not all the stories are awesome, some are just great and others not so good. The ones I enjoyed the most were: "Eurotrash", "Stoke Newington Blues", "The Last Resort On the Adriatic", "Sexual Disaster Quartet", "Snuff" and although I loved the idea behind "Where the Debris Meets the Sea" I thought it turns out quite poor.
But my top pick goes to "Granny's Old Junk" and "A Smart Cunt", these are really over the top.
The way the characters lead their lives is very realistic and european, especially small, developing european countries where chances at real life dwindle every day.
This was a very enjoyable read, but there were a couple of stories that ah jist couldn't get inta becoose of tha thick accent that tha narrator uses, ya ken?
Sending it to Germany today.
Yes, in spite of all, I'd maybe give Garland a bell. London had been starting to feel like Edinburgh had before I'd left it. Gleaves, May, even Darren, Avril, Cliff, Sandra and Gerard; they all constituted a set of expectations which snapped around me like a sprung trap. You can only be free for so long, then the chains start to bind you. The answer is to keep moving.
Off to melanthy by snailmail, enjoy!
These short stories and novels describe a squalid universe that made me feel uneasy sometimes, but with great humor, intelligence and creativity. Also, Irvine provides a very moving abundance of details when it is about drug taking.
I read Trainspotting in French years ago, and I didn't like as much as these stories... Maybe it is the short story format, or maybe the language.
Thank you for the ray, Rackyross. I will post it to Australia some time this week.
Sent to Jubby on May 27th.
I am currently reading another bookring book, but I plan to this one soon.
Thank you very much for sharing this book with me ( and for the little postcard inside from Inngrid (bearing the inscription: Welcome to Scotland).
I've also PMed verenka for contact details.
Have a good weekend!
'Eurotrash' was by far the best story that I read. It was the first story of his that I have read (and I have read 'Trainspotting', 'Filth', 'Glue' and 'Porno') that I didn't have to speak the text aloug to work out what he was phonetically saying!
I felt that the story didn't need the last twist, that the character of Chrissie was plausible as was, but a well crafted story.
Welsh writes about the seedy, underbelly of the world, one of junkies, alcoholics and violence. One that most of us (hopefully) will not emerge into, but a world that does indeed exist, and deserves to be explored.
The other stories I read were alright, but, nothing new, and felt like they were the earlier experiments for his later works.
Thank you for sharing this book with me.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Posted off to verenka.
First it was difficult to read because of the bits written in scots. It felt like hours just to read a single page. Besides I didn't care much for most of the stories. A lot of them seemed random and pointless, especially the ones with supernatural storylines thrown in. They were either too carefully crafted and artificial or too random. I don't normally mind the bizarre, but in these stories I found it to be neither original nor funny.
I had my occasional laughs and I liked Eurotrash and most of the Smart Cunt, so I'll give it 6 points.
