I bought this book about 10 days after the grand opening of a Waldenbooks on the south side of San Antonio where there hasn't been a book store in decades. My husband, Morphy, saw this one and knowing I like to read "The Cat Who..." series he thought the book cover for this one was hilarious. I've started to read it and it hasn't been as far so funny as I thought it might be, but we'll see...

2004 Book #42: The Cat Who Killed Lilian Jackson Braun

I have to say I was sorely disappointed in this book. The cover of this book completely cracked me up and I thought the idea of a parody of the Braun Cat Who series had a lot of possibilities. Well, I don't think Kaplow took advantage of those possibilities. When there was a lot that could be taken and poked fun of instead were used as a launching point for some totally out there and, often, frankly unfunny plotless writing. The ending occurred out of the blue in the last couple of chapters and gave me the feeling that after all the random and useless rambling Kaplow realized oh! maybe I should cough up something to tie up all this baggage! For the most part I felt like the book was a good excuse to put down some kinky thoughts and use Braun's name to rope in readers. Sadly enough Kaplow got me.
