From back cover:

They were the "miracle babies" - five identical girls born on a farm who went on to become the biggest celebrities of their day, drawing almost as many tourists as Niagra Falls and posing for more photographs than Jackie Kennedy. But behind the spotlights, there was another story-a sad, shocking tale of loneliness, abuse, and the price of fame...

Now, for the first time, the three surviving Dionne quintuplets tell their own story, from the bizarre, isolated childhood spent as exhibits in a government-funded nursery, to the difficult journey back to their family, where they were met with hostility from their siblings and physical and sexual harassment from their parents, to their tentative first steps into independence and individual identity. Their revelations are both moving and inspiring, a remembrance for the powerful bond of sisterhood they shared, how unwanted celebrity wreaked havoc on their lives-and how their love for each other helped them triumph.

I just finished this last night. The Dionne's story remains quite interesting; however I found the writing to be a little dry. I thought the story stopped too abruptly. I want to know what else happened in the quints lives other than just the short afterword provided at the end.

Thanks, lilsher, for sharing this one!

UPDATE: Mailed to meshe on 09/15/2004.

Wow! Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. So sad how the girls were treated by everyone, including the public and government. An interesting part of Canadian history. Thank you for sharing. :)

Update - Dec 2 - I have since watched a video documentary I took out from the library. These girls were used by the government as income. I can't help but wonder how things would have turned it if they had been left with their parents with "help", as opposed to being taken away for various reasons (health concerns, anger at the parents for trying to make some money off them, which was hypocritical)

I received this safely. I do have a few rings ahead of this, but I will get to this soon. Thanks!

I guess I still find it kind of amazing that they were so famous. While I really sympathized for the parents in the beginning, that was quickly lost. It's kind of hard to understand how they could be so hypocritical. I'm really glad that they finally found their courage, although it did kind of leave me wondering about the rest of the children in the family.

Thanks for sharing and off to the next person! :)
