Now a piece of Australian history, this book describes a double horror - the taking of an infant by a dingo, and the subsequent crucifixion of the grieving mother.

The picture shows the book outside the High Court of Australia, where the case eventually proceeded. The other book in the photo is rubyjules' Bookcrossing Journal, making its way around the globe and pausing briefly here. http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/1266669

Journal Entry 2 by Skyring at High Court in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Saturday, August 7, 2004
Released on Saturday, August 07, 2004 at High Court in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Australia.

Left this one at the sign outside the fountain entrance of the High Court. Kind of appropriate, really, because the Lindy Chamberlain appeal process finished here.

I caught this book outside the High Court as I was leaving the National Gallery around 5:15pm on the 7th August. I has been in Canberra for a conference and was trying to take in some of the local sites before flying back to Melbourne first thing Sunday. I had intended to buy my partner something in Gallery giftshop to take back as a present, both nothing really seemed appropriate or grabbed me that much...walking outside on a very still Canberra day, I saw this book! Bizarrely enough, I had *found* a most appropriate present...she had been in a play of the book at Uni several years ago and like me is a complete booknut. She loved the concept of BookCrossing and the kismit of the story of me find such an appropriate thing in the middle of nowhere!!

The book also cam in very useful later that afternoon...having missed the hourly bus service from the stop just by the High Court, I decided to walk up to new Parliament House to have a look over it as the sun was setting, and later catch the bus from there; while chatting with one of the many security guards stationed there, I managed to miss my bus again. Without a mobile to order a cab (Canberra's pretty desolate at that time of the afternnon!) I thought I'd try to walk back to the city, and got completely lost...I ended up sitting in a bus stop outside the Department of Premier and Cabinet for an hour-and-a-half in lonely freezing Canberra with just my book to keep me company! Good time to start reading it!!

Interesting book; not something I think I would have chosen myself, but very glad I've read it now. A compelling story engagingly written.
