Cats in May
14 journalers for this copy...
Wahoo! I found this decent-condition paperback of the out-of-print sequel to Tovey's wonderful "Cats in the Belfry" in a local Annie's Bookstop for a mere couple of bucks - what luck! It picks up shortly after "Belfry" left off, beginning with Solomon and Sheba adjusting to their new fame - and their hapless owners trying to cope with the results. As with the first book, this one will raise laughter and tears - and reading it feels like visiting old friends. [The book's both a continuation and a flashback: there are a couple of chapters devoted to the story of Blondin, the pet squirrel whose demise led Tovey and her husband to acquire their first Siamese...]
When you receive the book, please journal it, and PM the next person in line for their address so you'll have it ready when you've finished the book.

just arrived today - next in the TBR stack.
7/21/04 This is hilarious! My husband kept giving me 'funny' looks as to why I was sitting there laughing out loud.
Since I am 'owned' by two cats I can readily identify - thank goodness my husband can't hold a candle to Charles' projects!
will be sending on to Mary Zee shortly.

Received this in the mail today. Will read quickly, as soon as I finish my current read.
8/11 update - Just started on this today.
8/11 update - Just started on this today.
Since I haven't read Cats in the Belfry, I can't compare. But this was a funny account of the exploits of two Siamese, and the bumbling folks they share their house with.
I've never owned any Siamese - what an experience, especially with the pair of them! I'm mostly a one-cat-at-a-time person, and I think I now know why!
Thanks for sharing Gory! This will be sent on to Dmp523 on Monday, 8/16.

Received the book on Thursday...and am just now getting a chance to log in.
I was able to start reading it and am enjoying the antics of the cats! I'm about half way through and will be able to send it on to the next person by the end of this week.
Sept 9th update
Well it took me longer than a week to finish it up. Cute story. Engaging since I love cats (my two can be a handful at times as well...and they're not even Siamese!)
Sending on to dancing-dog tomorrow.

Just received this yesterday (9/23) and have already started reading it.
Finished it today - charming little book :) I was particularly amused with the antics of Blondin the squirrel. The cats reminded me a bit of my first cat, Dusty, who was half Siamese. Thanks for sharing this book!
Will mail it out tomorrow to FutureCat in New Zealand.
(send your good vibes to the book for the long trip!)

Arrived safely in New Zealand yesterday (sorry for not journalling it straight away, but we just got a new computer (YAYYYYY!!!!), and I was kind of caught up in playing games on it to see how good the graphics card is (it's pretty amazing!))
Anyway, I'm half way through another book at the moment, but I'll get onto this one soon.

A sweetly funny little book. I've often liked the idea of having siamese cats (I've always just had "moggies") - I'm not sure if the antics of Sheba and Solomon have put me off the idea or made me want them even more! (Though I think Ming and Sapphy could give them a run for their money in the mischieviousness stakes - we put up the Christmas tree tonight, and Ming is already eyeing it up, trying to work out whether to try (a) swallowing some tinsel, (b) batting the smaller ornaments under the couch, or (c) just going the whole hog and tipping the entire tree over. I suspect he'll try all three before the month is out... (Sapphy, on the other hand, will do something *really* original, and then let Ming take the blame)

Just arrived! Thanks FutureCat! :)
Journal Entry 13 by libertine101 from Perth City, Western Australia Australia on Thursday, December 16, 2004
I started reading this as soon as it arrived. A very funny and warm book. I was actually pleased to discover that not only was it about the authors 2 Siamese cats, but also other animals - including her family and neighbours! I esp loved the part about the orphaned Squirrel.
As for Timothy....urghhh...I would have clipped him over the ear hole and banned him from my property! *shudders*
My eldest cat is part Siamese but behaves as if he is pure breed. ;) Soloman really reminded me of him!! lol
I have not read the previous book...looks like one to put down on my Wish List!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Just arrived today from Canada. Thanks Jaquar. Can't wait to read it after my current read.
I mailed this out today to Prplpec. I attempted to read this but gave up only after a few pages. I think is just not the right time for me as I have been missing my kitty (who I had to put down this fall)lately.
Arrived in today's mail. Will read when I finish my current book--looking forward to it!
I enjoyed this book. It was a little difficult to get into--it's written in a kind of old-fashioned (1959) British way. But very interesting--I especially liked the story about the pet squirrel!
In the mail today to caligula03.

The book has arrived. Thank you. :)
The book was okay but I leave the book feeling that I know no more about Doreen, Charles and their cats than before I started reading the book. I just never managed to connect with Tovey's writing style and the chapters had the feeling of being stories that were only funny if one had been there.

Just received this in the mail... looks fun (although I didn't realize it was a sequel!)
This was a charming little book, although maybe it takes a real cat person to understand how one's cats can communicate their disdain and opinions perfectly plainly. You know, the sort of person who thinks it's perfectly normal to carry on a conversation with their cat.
Good heavens, I didn't realize I'd kept it this long! Sorry everyone.... I am mailing it off today to tchouli.
recvd today
thanks
thanks
finished today. fast read. i don't have siamese but can most certainly relate to the "adventures" that the humans had to endure. the cats dialogue was also amusing.
have to concur with libertine101 about timothy. but i also really did not care for charles; or rather the picture painted of charles.
i will be mailing to ada2 as soon as i have the addy.
thanks for the ring

I've been very remiss in not posting an entry (or posting the book back to Gory Details) sooner. Delightful book!!! Finished it very quickly (depite not moving it along!) - as I couldn't put it down. These pusses were very familiar and totally engaging. As I had to give my own puss (a Himalayan) to my sister, it was lovely to have these visitors for a while.
Thanks for sharing Gory Details!
