The Olive Farm: A Memoir of Life, Love, and Olive Oil in the South of France
8 journalers for this copy...
Carol Drinkwater, an English actress and her husband buy a disintegrating 10-acre olive farm in the south of France. They a re newly married and he has 2 teenage daughters from a previous marriage.
This book builds from the comedy of their first arrival at the farm when not much works (especially the teenagers), to her struggles with the French language (which she knows just enough of to get into trouble), to the olive trees.

Picked this up at the Meet-Up last night. I look forward to reading it soon. For now, it is going on my TBR shelf. Thanks...............
Enjoyable read.......lots happening, ups and downs, people coming and going, all comes together with a happy ending.
Picked up at our birthday tea today. Thank you and Happy Birthday to all of us!
Still on a "Italy" kick, I've read several books in succession involving Italy (olives involve Italy...LOL, this was as close as I could get with what was on my bookshelves!), with this being the latest - I just started it today and will journal again soon. Thanks for passing this along everyone.
Another "Year In Provence" type book. I enjoyed it. There were some real laugh out loud moments in Carol and Michel's lives on their dilapidated olive farm. The descriptions of the food, wine and countryside are what make these novels to interesting and fascinating to me.
Saving this one for bluenoser, for when she returns to Canada later this year.
Enjoy!

Wow! - This is one of a box of 9 yummy books that has just arrived in the mail from cestmoi, 3 of them from my wish list. I read a great review of this in a newspaper in France and The Beard has his eye on this one too. Thank you so much.
Both The Beard and I really enjoyed this book. Having visited southern France several times we read the book with all five senses tingling. The author's use of language is very vibrant, beautiful descriptions of the house, land, local characters and of course olive trees and olive oil.
Thanks cestmoi, for introducing me to this series.
I spotted this one on laura0141's wish list. It will be heading across the Atlantic today.

Received with thanks this morning.
Starting this today.
I've really been struggling with this book. I've kept on with it while trying to figure out what it is I don't like and have come to the conclusion that some of it's just too intimate. I'm interested in Appassionata but not in the details about Carol Drinkwater's relationship with Michel and knowing that they 'made love in the afternoon' isn't information that I require. Having worked out what I don't like I'm quite happy to stop reading.

Received book several weeks ago but have been ill - sorry for delay folks. :(
Really enjoyed this book. A bit different from my usual reads - was pleasantly surprised! A wonderful, courageous woman who battled on to reach her dream despite the odds!
PM'ing LindyB28 for addy!

I often find that I don't have the motivation to read non-fiction books even if I think I'd enjoy them when I sign up for a ring.
But this was totally enchanting. Carol Drinkwater's voice gives a strong personality to this narrative which is hugely interesting, not only in terms of the vicissitudes of the derelict olive farm as it grows into health, but also as the family Carol has found begins to cohere even when circumstances are almost unbearably hard.
