The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

A great book! I really enjoyed reading this. Its a very moving story of a young boy with Asperger's Syndrome and his quest to discover who killed his neighbours dog. I found it very well written and easy to read, very addictive actually! I've been recommending it to everyone!
The picture is of Mark Haddon, the author.
I've just read that the film rights have been bought by Hey Day (the makers of Harry Potter!) and Brad Grey (Sopranos producer) and Brad Pitt (!) in their first acquisition for Warner Bros.
Here's what Amazon.com had to say:
Mark Haddon's bitterly funny debut novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, is a murder mystery of sorts--one told by an autistic version of Adrian Mole. Fifteen-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone is mathematically gifted and socially hopeless, raised in a working-class home by parents who can barely cope with their child's quirks. He takes everything that he sees (or is told) at face value, and is unable to sort out the strange behavior of his elders and peers.
Late one night, Christopher comes across his neighbor's poodle, Wellington, impaled on a garden fork. Wellington's owner finds him cradling her dead dog in his arms, and has him arrested. After spending a night in jail, Christopher resolves--against the objection of his father and neighbors--to discover just who has murdered Wellington. He is encouraged by Siobhan, a social worker at his school, to write a book about his investigations, and the result--quirkily illustrated, with each chapter given its own prime number--is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
Haddon's novel is a startling performance. This is the sort of book that could turn condescending, or exploitative, or overly sentimental, or grossly tasteless very easily, but Haddon navigates those dangers with a sureness of touch that is extremely rare among first-time novelists. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is original, clever, and genuinely moving: this one is a must-read. --Jack Illingworth, Amazon.ca

Yay I received this book in the post yesterday but couldn't get on the pc last night. Will get onto it very soon am a quick reader and looking forward to reading this! Thank you!!
Have just read this book all in one go!! Wow I just couldn't put it down, very moving and brilliantly written. I must confess though I only skimmed through the appendix at the end (phew way over my head.)
Thank you so much for sharing this book!!
Shall pass on to the next person.
Thanks Reading-Fairy and Spiderchic, I got this book in today's post and I am reading it already!
This is the best novel I have read in a long while. After I started to read it, I wasn't able to put it down. I liked how the boy was made so easy to identify with, and how the math was about the same level than what we had in high school. The whole book is very well controlled and touching. Thanks for letting me read it!
Next the book will go to Brujula.
11.08.2004 Sent to Brujula.
Was waiting for me with the rest of the mail yesterday! As I-ve received three books last week, it might take a while before I get to it, but I'll try to keep it less than one month!
Thank you!
I moved this book to the top of the to be read pile because there were so many people after me in the list. And I'm really glad I did! I started this book before falling asleep Friday night (it was past midnight so I guess it was really Saturday!) and finished it Saturday evening! It's the kind of book you can't put down, I even read aloud bits of it to my mum (translating to French as I read, since her English is rather rusty).
Mark Haddon's character, Christopher is really touching, and oh so true!
Thank you very much, Reading-Fairy for organizing this ring!
The book will be on its way to shellyann tomorrow!
Mailed today to shellyann
just came in today's mail-will try to get read and back out very soon. I do have 2 ahead of it.
Interesting but too scattered for me. I have a son with Asperger's syndrome. Mark did a good job in writing this but I just found it too discombobulating (?) I may try again at a later date. I don't want to hold this up since it's a ring.

I really enjoyed this but i didn't really think it was funny, it was kind of sad.
Thanks for including me in this and its on to Bkworm9.
Just got this book in the mail from Nwadel. I'm so excited to be able to finally read this book and from all of your comments, it looks like it was well worth the wait! I'll let you know how I like it after I've finished reading it.
I recently finished reading this and while I didn't think it was as amazing as I've heard, it was definitely an enjoyable read. I think the reason I was a little turned off was because of the writing style, which someone else described as "scattered", and a little also because of the end. But thank you for letting me part of this book ring.
Will be sending this off as soon as possible!
This book has been mailed to SmilingSun, who should be receiving it in a couple of days. Happy Reading!
Received it a couple of days ago--almost finished with it and will send on to Rainbow Babe ASAP. Excellent insight into the mind of a young man with Asperger's Syndrome. When he said "I see everything...." and "...most people are blind..." was very good.
Received this today... can't wait to read it! As I'm just finishing up midterms week, I'll try to start on it very soon.
I really enjoyed this book, particularly the writing style and how the author captured so well everything that was going on in the boy's head. It's been a while since I had such a hard time putting a book down!
Illinicheme has asked to be skipped so I will be sending this on to Doveilibri within the week. Thanks for sharing, Reading-Fairy!
Rec'd in the mail and started reading it IMMEDIATELY!!!
HOWEVER It was shang-haied by my eleven year old, who started to read it and won't give it back! (Don't you just love Book Crossing?) Will try to hurry him along, and then get back to it myself! Thank you so much!
Added 5-24-05: Turns out that I rec'd a
SECOND copy in the mail! How I got involved in two book rings for the
SAME book is anyone's guess! So, I've read that one and sent it on already.
THIS one is only waiting for my son to finish it. He's up to page 75. I guess it's going to be a pretty slow process. Sorry. He stops and talks about EVERY idea he reads about. *SIGH*

By the way . . . .
The origami bookmark was WONDERFUL! My sons have already unfolded it a thousand times to copy the folding pattern and make their own! Thank you!

This book arrived in my mailbox today--perfect timing as I just finished my previous book this morning!
I finished reading this book yesterday. It was interesting seeing the world from such a different point of view. At first I really enjoyed it, but by the end I was beginning to get a little bored with it. My favorite part was trying to work out the Monty Hall Problem. This book is all packaged up and ready to send to the next person--I'm just waiting on an address.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
UKBrat asked to be skipped for this one so I sent it on to Ramya this morning. Thanks, Reading-Fairy, for sharing this book with me!
Received in yesterday's mail -- thanks, Reading-Fairy for lending and Eucalia for sending!
A brief update, since I've had this for a while:
I've been reading it sporadically -- I'm enjoying it, but it doesn't hold my attention for long stretches. I'll probably be shipping it off to Vsimeone sometime next week.
I liked this a lot, and I'm sorry I kept it for so long! It went off in the mail this morning. Thanks, LauraKateKnits, for sharing this book! (And what is it that you knit? [g] I crochet, and am struggling to learn to knit!)
Thanks, rec'd today. Have a few rings/rays in front of this one. Looking forward to it!
Loved the unique perspective. Definitely different from the way my mind works. Thanks so much for letting me participate in this ring. Mailing off to directionshome (sweetpea has read the book & asked to be skipped).
Just get the book in the mail.
....I emailed the next TWO on the list, and both no longer want the book. I am going to try the next person.
Wow! This book has finally made it back home and now has the bold title of my first ever ring to return to me. :o)
Not sure what to do with it now but i feel it deserves something special. Will keep it with me until i can think of a suitable release.
I have decided to let this book travel further by passing on to a good friend and colleague. It's my last day at work tomorrow and I will miss her very much. This seemed like a suitable gift.
Sally, I hope the book (and it's journey around the world) inspires you as much as it inspired me. Have a lovely summer!
